Planning to add a Line Out Converter, subwoofer, or amp to your stock radio? Want to do it without cutting or splicing into your car's factory wiring?

Then you'll need what's called a reverse radio harness (which plugs into the rear of the stock radio, just like the car's factory radio harness).

The aftermarket harness manufacturers (Scosche, Metra, American International, and others) make reverse harnesses for Subarus, but theirs frequently are missing the Orange/White Dimmer wire. The stock Subaru radio needs all 14 wires for the illumination to work. When you order one from online sellers, there's no telling whether it will have 13 or 14 wires.

The 'forward' harnesses (what you normally use to install an after-market radio) also have the same problem.

I've been custom making radio wiring harnesses in small batches, mainly for SVX owners. But WRX and other Subaru owners have been interested in these harnesses too. See each link below for a picture and more details.

New: I now have the new 20-pin harnesses (both genders) used in 2008 and later Impreza/WRX/STI without OEM Nav. Mine include the two wires for the OEM Steering Wheel Controls (nobody else's does).

Reverse harness (http://ae64.com/WRXharness.htm) $14 -- Plugs into the WRX radio (as well as radios from all other 1993-up Subarus except the SVX). Use this to:
Install a factory subwoofer that didn't come with a complete factory T-harness (read subwoofer notes, below)
Add a Line Output Converter (LOC) to install an after-market amp or subwoofer (you'll need to combine a reverse and a forward WRX harness)
Install your factory radio in another car
Restore the factory radio plug in your car if it's been damaged or removed
This harness allows you to do those first three things without having to cut or splice the factory wires.

'Forward' harness (http://ae64.com/WRXfwdharness.htm) $12 -- Mates with the factory radio plug in all 1993-up Subarus (except the SVX). These should be easier to find at local stores, but many don't have the Dimmer wire. Use this to:
Install an after-market radio in your 1993-up Subaru
Install a subwoofer or LOC (read subwoofer notes, below)
Reverse subwoofer harness (http://ae64.com/Subwoofharness.htm) $12 -- Harness with 8-position connector that plugs into the Subaru factory under-seat subwoofer. Use this to:
Install a factory under-seat subwoofer that didn't come with a complete factory T-harness (read subwoofer notes below)
Install a Subaru under-seat subwoofer in another car (yes, you can do that).
Note: Similar to the other harnesses, the wires on this subwoofer harness are about 5.75" long. This is not a complete T-harness. You will also need the appropriate forward harness for your car and reverse harness for your HU.

Forward subwoofer harness (http://ae64.com/Subwooffwdharness.htm) $12 -- Harness with 8-position connector that plugs into the car's factory subwoofer T-harness (the end under either of the front seats). Use this to:
Install an after-market under-seat subwoofer (such as the Kenwood KSC-SW1 (http://www.kenwoodusa.com/Car_Entertainment/Subwoofers/Powered_Subwoofers/KSC-SW1) or the Clarion SRV303 (http://www.clarion.com/us/en/products/2006/audio/speakers/phaze_1_speakers/SRV303/us-en-product-pf_1132912143081.html) or the Blaupunkt THb 200A (http://www.blaupunkt.com/us/7606305001_main.asp)) when you already have the factory subwoofer T-harness.
Feed an after-market amp from a factory subwoofer harness that you already have in your car.
Notes about Subaru factory subwoofer: The factory subwoofer is supposed to come with a T-harness. One end connects between the car and the factory radio, and the other end connects to the subwoofer. The long leg is about 50" to reach under the seat. Some people selling factory subwoofers are cutting the wires near the sub. If you buy one that does not include a complete harness, you'll need one WRX 'forward' and one WRX reverse harness and an inline fuse holder to replace what's missing. If your subwoofer does not include any part of Subaru's harness, you'll need the WRX 'forward' and reverse harnesses plus the reverse subwoofer harness.

For shipping and payment options, and to place your order, please see this web page (http://ae64.com/Ordering.htm).

Please send your order or inquiries via E-MAIL

BTW, if you have a stock WRX radio you'd like to sell, there are always SVX owners interested in buying. Post a classified on the "Wanted or For Sale" forum at Subaru-SVX.net (http://subaru-svx.net) .

I don't know anything about radio wiring, but I have a quick question. Can I use either/both of these to install a satellite radio receiver? I currently am using the FM transmitter, but that kinda sux and I'm not gonna install a new head unit. TIA

Can I use either/both of these to install a satellite radio receiver?Sorry, but the WRX forward/reverse harnesses won't help. What you're looking for is a way to create an aux audio input. See this thread for info: Stock head unit information -- pin-outs, aux inputs, and more (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=749402). Also search for the threads where people describe how they connected their iPods to the stock radio (same goal -- aux in).

Very nice! Can you supply the harness to plug into a different car (like you mentioned above)? Different car being a 93 GMC Typhoon. Yes I am gonna stick a stock 6 disk Suby radio in it. Why not, good radio and simple to use! :D

I'm going to bump this because this man is a great seller. After paying $30 for a harness from some scumbag on ebay and waiting two weeks to find out they had no intentions to ship, I contacted David (SVXdc).

Paid Thursday, recieved the harness today (Tuesday), looks great, has all 14 wires and was still $10 cheaper than I coulda got one anywhere else. Very pleased with this transaction :)

What would I need to install one of the under seat subs if it appears that I have no wiring harness at all? What else would I need to install one under the pass seat?
Thanks

What would I need to install one of the under seat subs if it appears that I have no wiring harness at all? What else would I need to install one under the pass seat?
What year/model is your car? Does your car still have the factory radio harness (the harness in the dash that plugged into the stock radio)?

A complete factory subwoofer T-harness will look similar to this:
http://img159.imageshack.us/img159/1788/subwoofharnesspx0.th.jpg (http://img159.imageshack.us/img159/1788/subwoofharnesspx0.jpg)
That cable can be used to install the sub under either of the front seats.

The sub is supposed to include a small metal bracket that attaches to one of the seat bolts. It can usually be bent to fit the opposite seat or even a different model. People have also used heavy Velcro to hold the sub to the carpet without a bracket.

For more information about the factory sub and harness, see this post (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?p=9457033&postcount=4). Also see the installation instructions on Subaru's Technical Info site (link at the bottom of that post).

To reconstruct your own T-harness from scratch, you'll need three of my harnesses: WRX "forward", WRX reverse, and subwoofer reverse. You'll also need to add four feet of six conductors of wire and an inline fuse holder. Usually I also have the extra wire and fuse holders available for sale.

Occasionally (when I have time) I'll assemble a complete T-harness, with the connections soldered and covered with heat shrink tubing, sleeving over the long leg, and a 10 Amp fuse included. Please e-mail me for price and availability.

ADDED: I just realized that you may have been asking about installing one of the aftermarket under seat subs. The above applies to Subaru's OEM subs.

For an aftermarket (which should include its own wiring harness), you'll just need one each "forward" and reverse radio harness. You'll use those (along with the aftermarket sub's harness) to build a T-harness, similar to Subaru's.

Yes, I'm still selling all of the harnesses listed in post #1, plus several new kinds. Please contact me via e-mail -- I'm better able to keep track of questions and orders that way than via PMs. My address is on this page (http://ae64.com/Ordering.htm).
