I've got a copy of the Road & Track guide to the wrx that was given to me by a sales rep at the dealership. One of the captions describing available options reads:

"Visual choices include a taller hood scoop, front aero valance panel under the air dam, side skirts, a rear valance and a large rear wing."

I checked the official WRX site and I can see no mention of a taller hood scoop being available. Does anyone have any information on this? Thanks.

The R&D guide may have been referring to the STI hood scoop. It is taller than the normaly WRX hood scoop. It's not really an option. You can order it from Japan though.

I think there was a group buy for this going on in the Vendor forum a while back. Search there.

12 STi hood scoops were ordered from SOJ in the group buy and are expected to arrive mid-August. I'm sure if anyone were to back out, they'd be more than happy to sell it to a fellow i-clubber.

Whats the advantage of the taller hood scoop. Will it let in much more air, that will improve the performance noticably? Reason I asked is because the current one while funtional it does add wind resistance.

With the taller hoodscoop, your'll allow more air to the intercooler which allows more cooler air.

Unless your doing it for the looks or holding on to your warranty. Save your money and get a front mounted intercooler from COBB or someone else.

Note:
The STI hood was designed for the STI intercooler, which is a 33% larger intercooler (Roughly).
