View Full Version : Cobb Stage 2 Question
RedlineRacer 03-27-2005, 02:14 AM Ive got a 4EAT 02 subaru wrx running cobb stage 2. Ive got a freind thats keep on bugging me to race him against his evo VIII. Ive read that many 5spd wrx's have taken evo's running cobb stage 2 and taking them by as much as a car length or more. But then again its stick. So since mine is automatic i know its slower since i dont have a torque converter, but will i stand a chance in beating my friend with his damn evo?
wrxdrvr 03-27-2005, 11:26 AM If you had the high stall TC, then 50/50. :) As your car is now, only if he misses a shift. :D

I have an 02 wagon w/ full turbo back exhaust. Gutted up, oversize tmic, K&N flat intake. Running Cobb AP stg.2- 1.20 -93 map.
On my Passport G-Meter, the best I have done is 0-60 @ 6.1 2nds. but that was on winter gas, and it was calibrated for 3250 lbs. rather than real world car weight of 3500, w/ me, and a tank of gas.
RedlineRacer 03-27-2005, 01:55 PM so even if i got the high stall converter it would still be 50/50? thats kind of hard for me to believe. I mean high stall converters should ge me as fast as a 5spd, and many 5spds runnings Cobb Stage 2 have said they have taken evos no problem.

Well OK, I give it 60/40 for you with high stall TC. It would depend on the driving ability of the evo driver you are up against.

You can gain a lot with a modified TC, & solenoid valve, but it's going to be pricy. Also, your engine-tranny lockup is going to higher rpm's, so your gas milage will go down. Things to consider.
MR. STi 03-28-2005, 12:33 PM all drivers equal, no chance at all.
stock evo vs stock STi are roughly equal give or take a few tenths.
my bro in law had an '04 with TBE and a cobb stg II......my sti would leave him pretty badly, and its only got a TBE...... so if he couldnt hang with me, theres no way u could hang with an evo.
not baggin on your car, just callin it like i see it. :)
clamdip 03-28-2005, 02:44 PM get the cobb 2.5 and you'll be in good hands for sure. :)
RedlineRacer 03-28-2005, 03:16 PM Alright, yah i wont be moving up to Cobb stage 2.5 for a while. Money isnt flwoing to well for me now, im only 16 with a part time photography job, but i will be lookin for a summer job. But thanks for ur opinions guys. I think im just gonna wait until i get some ic hoses and a torque converter put in, then i MIGHT give him a shot.
elohdaeh78 03-28-2005, 04:03 PM A good running cobb stage 2 5speed with an up-pipe is good for 13.2-13.5 @ 99-103mph with a good driver. If your car is driven properly and you have all the supporting mods a cobb stage 2 can run with a stock evo or sti. Its gonna be really close, but with an auto you are in a bit of trouble.
RedlineRacer 03-29-2005, 03:34 AM yah sure i will be in a little bit of trouble i know that, but after my torque converter i wont be in trouble right? ill be right up there with the 5spds...?

You had better think oil cooler first, then the tc mod, or both at the same time.
RedlineRacer 03-29-2005, 08:20 PM yah i will be doing those at the same time
