View Full Version : OH NOES!!! My CAR1!!!1
doster82 04-04-2005, 11:59 AM Hi everybody,
So, as I was getting off the off ramp on 1-15 at 4500s, the guy in front of me decided to start to turn right, then stop in the middle of the intersection. Not realizing this, I turn my head to the left to merge into oncoming traffic, and run right into the guy.
No damage to internals, but there's some pretty extensive damage to the right front incluting the headlight, crossmember, and front quarter panel.
So, needless to say, I'm looking for some good body shops. My insurance agent recommended a couple for me to use such as Nate Wade and another which is affiliated with Allstate insurance, but I also wanted any suggestions you had. Thanks for your help.
I guess no engine swap in the near future. :(
David
WillieBill 04-04-2005, 02:33 PM I know the guys down at Dentmaster on 3rd West and about 2500 South, and they are honest, reliable, and do good work. They have worked on more than one of my cars and I have been happy with the results. FWIW.
snowman4us 04-04-2005, 03:05 PM Nate Wade does some good work.
sorry about your car david
njc200 04-04-2005, 06:34 PM Chris Body & Paint on about 70th South and State. They're the best in the business, but charge accordingly. Since you're not paying for it, there's no other place to take it IMO.
FastRS 04-05-2005, 12:15 AM if the other guy's insurance is paying then go to The Paint Booth in englewood. hands down the best imho.
njc200 04-05-2005, 10:21 AM Isn't Englewood in CO? I'm going to go out on a limb and assume he's not interested in that shop since he lives in SLC.
doster82 04-05-2005, 01:53 PM So, I'll be going to Nate Wade. They gave me a good appraisal, and work intensively with Allstate, my insurance company.
Not including the A/C condenser (which I think is shot) looks like I'm gonna be spending around $2500. Sucks to be me. Definately going through the insurance, and probably will get a CF hood if the price is right.
Total damage to my recollection: Replacing: headlight, corner light, grill, upper tie bar (cross-member), lower tie bar, hood, connectors for bumper, and A/C condenser. Repair: bumper, front right quarter panel, and paint.
The thing that sucks the most is without the price of the A/C (or CF hood) the total cost of parts is around $700. However, the 42 hours of labor are going to kick my ass.
Oh well, that's what you get for not paying attention.
Did I mention I was sited for following too closely by dumbass UHP, too?
:furious: :furious: :furious:

Well duh! The other driver sounds like a bonehead, but the bottom line is you rear-ended him because you weren't paying attention. Live 'n learn. On the bright side, the car will probably come out of the body shop looking better than new. :)
Can you source any of the components used to keep costs down?
snowman4us 04-06-2005, 02:01 AM well, this would be a perfect time to get your whole car painted a Gunmetal/charcol(sp?) color...plus you can get an aftermarket grill, and get your sideskirts painted...
my .o2
doster82 04-06-2005, 11:44 AM Pace,
Yes, I can source out parts, and the cost may come down a bit, but I don't know about driving cost down.
Kirill, what suggestions woud you have for the aftermarket grill and such, and what about painting??? Do the whole body a different color?? I'm planning on an aftermarket CF hood, but do the grill too? I'm so confused, I've never had to make a claim with insurance before, so I have no idea what I'm doing.
Argh, help!
David
Brood 04-06-2005, 04:36 PM That sucks man, I'm glad you're okay though. I take it you won't be wanting those parts anytime soon? ;)
snowman4us 04-06-2005, 04:51 PM there are a couple of companies that make grills for GC's...
and yeah, get your whole car painted. seems like they will have to paint 1/2 the car anyways. so just ask them if for a little extra they will sand down the rest of the car and paint it BMW400(gunmetal) or another color of your choice. Sense they will be painting so mutch of the car anyways it sholdnt be to mutch more to get the rest painted...

doster82 04-07-2005, 09:22 AM So...
Looks like I'm gonna be having a buddy of mine do the repairs with me. He's rebuilt a number of parts on his GTi, is a certified professional welder, and is very confident in his abilities or fabrication. What we'll probably do is replace the tie rods, as previously discussed, then see if we can either find a fender in the same color, or another fender all together and have it repainted. Then, CF hood, and hopefully we'll be good to go.
So, job looks to be around $1000 all together, and will be receiving check for $2500, possibly.
David
P.S. I asked about painting the entire car. They originally were only going to do the fender, and bumper. To prep and paint the entire car would be an additional $700.
phunkeeHomosapien 04-07-2005, 11:35 AM thats not too bad you should get this kit for it while you at it ;)

quynce 04-07-2005, 11:45 PM if the other guy's insurance is paying then go to The Paint Booth in englewood. hands down the best imho.
Now known as Global Collision, but they're in Denver. And yeah, good shop.
doster82 04-08-2005, 05:29 AM I wish. I was checking with Alpine, but the chicka was like, "Yeah... um....we only work on German cars." ***!!!
Anybody know of some good shops that will give me a nicely high-priced quote? I'm supposed to meet with some guy from Allstate who's gonna give me an estimate on damages. I want to have at least 2 quotes to show the guy in case he tries to low-ball me.
Thanks, guys.
David
njc200 04-08-2005, 12:18 PM Like I said go to Chris Body and Paint on about 72nd S and State. They're the best, so you pay for it. I guarantee they'll give you a high quote.
doster82 04-08-2005, 02:29 PM Sounds good. I'll go check them out. Thanks for the suggestion.
David
azn2yunr 04-09-2005, 02:25 AM do you only have liablity, because if your going thorugh insurance why would it cost you so much money.
doster82 04-12-2005, 01:40 PM Okay, UPDATE:
I went to see my insurance adjuster (Allstate Kicks ass), and he said total repairs were much more than Nate Wade stated. Of course, he was being nice, and wrote me a check for $2500. So, I'm buying the fender at Interstate ($27), got a headlight ($150), Clear corner lights ($20), grill ($106), and A/C condenser ($80). Still looking into the CF hood ($500, are Seibon any good?), and I need the right baffle, and top tie rod, or cross member, I'm not sure which it is called (attaches top of radiator).
My buddy Pete's a certified welder/ fabricator, and will help with install. Then, Adam Munoa's buddy is probably gonna help out with the paint.
So, I'm stuck for right now guys... replace the bumper? y/n? Where do I get the right baffle and cross member (Pick n' Pull?), and I was thinking suspension mods: Springs, shocks, Sways? Good call. You're input is greatly appreciated.
