i tried posting this in the newbies forum but think it would be better here. i need to hear some more info on water injection. can i use it instead of a bigger intercooler when i upgrade my turbo? it seems like it would be much cheaper than a front mount or even a top mount. just wondering if anyone is doing this. i read of people doing it on non subbies. any info on water injection is welcome thanks.

Works great, and yes you can use it instead of a larger intercooler-IF it is plumbed correctly and if your present intercooler can flow enough CFM. I use the Aquamist 2d system-Aquamist is used by racers around the world. There are other kits out there but I have no first hand knowledge of them.
There is a forum devoted entirely to water injection, it used to be called www.turboice.com(or .net ?), but I think it has been changed to www.waterinjection.com(or .net ?). Better yet just go to the Aquamist site and follow the links.

I have a two stage setup with the stock ic and vf39 turbo. 1st injector comes on at 7 psi, the second comes on at 12. It allows me to push the turbo so much more than I thought possible.

Yep, that should do you fine. If you want, I can show you how I tapped the IC and used my Aquamist kit. Even have a few spare ICs and can do the tap for you.

PM me if interested

Hey zax, I switched from washerfluid, to 1/3 alky and 2/3rds water. My car feels like it has lost a good bit of power. Any tuning suggestions to get me started? a/f is in the mid 11's. it seems tohave gotten much richer than what I was running before.

u should be able to lean out the mixture and retard the timeing a little bit from ur previous tune.

My timing was pretty aggressive(at least I thought so).

Yes it will be a great help.
It greatly improves the Subaru's octane requirement so the ECU can run in a "happy place" even on common pump premium.

I am running a home built system based on the Shurflo pump and commercial spray nozzles.

The best place on the net to get and share info on water injection is the open forum that Aquamist has set up --- they encourage all users of water/alcohol injection to contribute, so you will see posts from all sorts of setups on every car, diesel and motorcycle application.

hey thanks for the link larry. and zax thanks for the offer to tap an intercooler i might take u up on that ill let you know when i decide if i really wanna do this. do you think it will be cheaper to run water injection plus extra tuning than a bigger topmount or fmic?

I just installed the SMC kit yesterday...it came with absolutely everything you would need to install. Great set-up.

Immediately killed a small knock problem I was getting in hard 4th/5th pulls, even with out proper tuning. Using 50/50 methanol/water

ive been wanting to do this for who knows how long now, but my car is finally out of the shop and instead of doing a FMIC again, ill install a Wi system.

is that a smart idea? (just dont want to run into problems)

i dont have much right now just a hybrid 257, VF-22, Link ems future plans include a larger turbo also. which system should i go with? 2d? 1s? something else?

i have a boost spike problem

when in 4th or 5th, if the EGT's are around 700deg C and i punch it, the boost can spike up to 1.5 bar! this is on the stock turbo!

but no knock at all.

i am also running a flat AFR of 11.9-12.0:1 and fairly agressive timing

btw, im on CA 91 crap gas.

Mods:
FMIC
UP, TBE
Intake
UTEC
WI
colder plugs

on the dyno, with mid 11 AFR's, the WI gained 20whp for me. leaned out more, the car runs a lot smoother and feels faster

antyoo, do you have a dual stage setup or single? how much wheel hp are u puttin down with the stock turbo?

single stage 3.9gph nozzle, turns on at .5 bar

the dyno at harmanmotive says i have 245whp and 240tq

and they arent joking when people say water injection steam cleans your engine. my WBO2 sensor looks brand new, and the soot inside my muffler is slowly going away :D

what about about a helix tmic+WI+vf22, how much boost could i run compared to just a vf22 and tmic

WI allows you to boost more, have more aggressive timing, and leaner AFR's

to an extent of course

its hard to say how far one can go until they actually install a WI system and begin tuning for it.

antyoo, one more question, which WI system did you get? aquamist, smc, custom?
