I've tried working with another vendor on getting an exhaust package setup for my car. I've recieved nothing but rushed service and what appears to be attitude. Anywho, hope y'all can be of help.

What I'm shooting for is a full 3'' turbo back exhaust for my STi. Something along the lines of either a Helix or Cobb downpipe (with cat) and of course a cat-back exhaust.

I'm digging the Borla XR-1 as I understand its not too obnoxious, and looks somewhat like a stock STi exhaust. My concern is that there is an adapter used to mate the Borla exhaust to a 3'' downpipe. I have yet to get a full description of what this adapter really is.

Does the Borla midpipe technically have a 2.5'' flange that through some masterful gasketry and flange extension piece is made to bolt to a 3'' down pipe (which would present a 2.5'' kink in the exhaust, maybe, no bueno)? Or, is this an intermediate section of pipe (either with a 2.5'' or 3'' end) that through a shortened midpipe, mates the downpipe and midpipe?

Could you post a picture of this adapter?

Thanks for your time.

Hey Eric,

We do not have a picture of it, but basically what it is, is that there is is a 2.5" section on the part that mates to the downpipe, that is the only part of the exhaust that is 2.5" the rest is a full 3" exhaust.

Basically, u can mount the exhaust the way it is to the downpipe, however it is not a flat flange. You can get a flat flange made @ any exhaust shop, it cost me $40 to have mine done.

When you get a flat flange made up you also need to ask for a 3" slip joint which is what you will need to mate the catback onto the downpipe perfectly w/o any leaking issues.

Super interested in borla hush catback...

planning on going to a high flow catted DP a little later on, do I need to order a flange in advance for that?

Subydude, you rule. I love my new Tarmac IIs, and I can't wait to order a borla system from you.

hey,

You dont need the flange until you order the DP, cuz it will work work well with a stock downpipe.

hey i got a question i have an 05 lgt and i want to go single instead of dual. i want to know will the xr1 wrx muffler with some tweaking fit my car? i am gonna weld from the muffler straight back to the cat<with either 2.75 or 3" piping. so if it will fit can you sell just the axle back? let me know asap thanks jay :D

Hi,

Sorry, we cannot split them up.

When you say single tip, you mean you want to get rid of the second muffler and just have 1 muffler with 1 single tip?

Either way, we are unsure of how that would work out, but any muffler shop would be able to make it work.
