View Full Version : 2.5 Hybrid with vf34
LiquidForce 04-15-2005, 06:04 PM I am about to do a turbo upgrade so I got a base line done.
mods:
ej257
stock wrx heads
sti pinks
vf34
up-pipe and txs turbo back.
ecutek.
I am upgrading to a pe1820 clone with pe650 injectors. Hopefully the top end will not fall off so much. I know it's going to be quite a change to loose some of that low end torque.

stickman 04-15-2005, 07:22 PM its those stock WRX heads and cams that make the power fall off like that too.
scoobyimpreza 04-15-2005, 07:35 PM that drop off sucks, at red line you have such low hp numbers!
makes me sad cause i have something similar (mod wish) never dynoed it.
LiquidForce 04-15-2005, 08:51 PM The power definately falls off early . But then again the power starts about 800 rpms sooner than the setup on a 2.0. 300ft lbs at 3400 rpms makes for a good autocross setup.
scoobyimpreza with your vf22 the power shouldn't drop off as much as mine. I bet your car is a blast to drive.
scoobyimpreza 04-17-2005, 11:30 AM haha, its alright right now.. well see how it is next week.. i get a RS tranny/rear diff and hopefully new injectors and alky? THEN dyno time
scoobyimpreza 04-17-2005, 11:31 AM haha anyways hows your car? loving it? also very true on the statement you made about the Hp.
MyFirstDeuce 04-17-2005, 11:48 AM edit. NM. Didnt read the first post carefully.
02WRX2.5 04-17-2005, 11:44 PM Start looking for a tranny, and no an rs tranny won, t be good enough. Hopefully will get enought time this weekend to put in my newly aquired 6-speed and r180 diff , so for me now its time for a bigger turbo. my setup is very similar exceot I,m running a vf 39 at 18psi 310whp 318tq. good luck with the mutt motor, their the best. just like dogs
sjl1614 04-17-2005, 11:52 PM We can compare numbers hopfully sometime in the future. I am in the middle of a EJ257 w/ V7 heads + 6 speed. Should be done in about a week, then tuning!!!! I'm sure i will forgot some small part i need......
LiquidForce 04-28-2005, 09:51 PM I just installed a Deadbolt vf22 and got it tuned at TopSpeed. I am very happy with the turbo and the tune.
The chart is of both my old setup and the new. This is a much better combo.

mikeG8U 04-28-2005, 10:28 PM cannot see the chart
Davenow 04-29-2005, 01:18 AM OMG I cant wait to see what mine does
Going into shop May 9
Getting
2,5 block
CP pistons
stock wrx heads
Crower stage 2 cams
my vf22-P&P (for now)
sti pinks (for now)
RA gearset
Clutchmasters clutch (70% higher rated than stock)
I figure with my cams, if you made 313, I should easily be in the 330+range, with boost not falling off as much.
IN about 2 months, I am going 850cc injects and a superzilla 49 (maybe 52)
Looking to make 375-390 range...
What are your duty cycles like on your pinks? WHat peak boost are you running? WHat is is tapering to???

On pump?
Davenow 04-29-2005, 09:03 AM On pump?
yup.
I am thinking it should be possible as my setup, without the cams, with a 20G makes around 350 from what I have seen. And what I have seen of the results from doing cams is around 30whp once tuned.
LiquidForce 04-29-2005, 09:38 AM Davenow ,
My vf22 has a wheel ugrade and port and polish. I am now running PE650's and my duty cycles are in the 75 - 80% range at only 17lbs. I imagine the pinks would be very close if not maxed. I think the higher compression and the stock heads are limiting what boost I can run.
I can't wait to play with some c16;)
scoobyimpreza 04-30-2005, 05:34 PM what does a stock STi or a WRX make on this dyno?
kwilson36 04-30-2005, 06:03 PM Get the heads P&P. If there off why not..... From what I've heard the stock heads are quite restrictive.
scoobyimpreza 04-30-2005, 09:24 PM wait. so that graph of 300 + is that with a VF-22 or a pe1820?
Porter 04-30-2005, 10:04 PM wait. so that graph of 300 + is that with a VF-22 or a pe1820?
It's a Deadbolt-reworked VF22.
scoobyimpreza 05-01-2005, 08:13 AM getting better numbers, but your low end suffers :( TQ doesnt tapper as much, but seems as if your HP tappers more?
LiquidForce 05-01-2005, 09:12 AM Low end suffers? I am passing my peak torque within 200 rpms and holding it a lot longer. The 34 to that point was a smoother transition where as this turbo hits harder. The car is a lot more fun to drive with this combo.
LiquidForce 05-01-2005, 09:21 AM oops. double post
