View Full Version : Wrx Swap Cost ? 99subi 04-16-2005, 05:08 PM Ok so ive been thinkin of buying a wrx motor, ecu, harness how high shoold i go price wise or ok whats a good deal for lets say an 04 with 25k on it :D thanks guys 2000 RSTi 04-16-2005, 05:15 PM A WRX swap should run you about 5-6000 from what you have stated... the only thing you need is a full chasis harness Jaxx 04-16-2005, 05:24 PM 5-6k with labor you mean 5-6k for a motor is wack 2000 RSTi 04-16-2005, 11:46 PM I meant motor + install 99subi 04-17-2005, 11:58 AM labor is not ganna be a problem im going to do it myself with my dad (subaru mechanic) so aprox just for the motor ecu and harness. i know i need more than that but im just lookin for the price of this stuff 2000 RSTi 04-17-2005, 02:19 PM your looking at about 3 grand or less 2000 RSTi 04-17-2005, 02:20 PM but you do need a full chasis harness. If you get the engine harness only you really cant do much with it until you get the chasis harness xcntrk75 04-17-2005, 03:04 PM My entire swap project consisting of an 05’ WRX motor, tranny, r-diff, propeller-shaft, ECU, full harness, and all the odds and ends ended up costing me right at about $5,000 after everything was said and done. This is of course doing all the work yourself…. :D 2000 RSTi 04-17-2005, 03:23 PM I wish my STi swap came out to be that much simpreza2 04-17-2005, 04:00 PM My entire swap project consisting of an 05’ WRX motor, tranny, r-diff, propeller-shaft, ECU, full harness, and all the odds and ends ended up costing me right at about $5,000 after everything was said and done. This is of course doing all the work yourself…. :D Wow thats alot, how many miles on the engine? I just got all the same stuff plus brakes, hubs, struts, springs, x-member and contol arms for 3k. All out of a 04 w/ 18k. But as for cost all I need now is a hood w/ a hood scoop. xcntrk75 04-17-2005, 06:03 PM ...Wow thats alot... That cost was for the entire install start to finish, not just the drivetrain. You know how they say save an extra 1k for misc expenses? Well I blew that amount before I even had the engine in. For example, went to hook up my airbox - no MAF ($175), went to hook up my p-steering lines – cut at the rack ($199), missing O2 sensors ($200), new up & down-pipe - $350….etc…etc… Plus I was going from an AT to MT so had a large chunk of change wrapped up in pedal-box, clutch master/slave cylinder, hard-lines, shifter trim and knob, etc…etc… Also had my driveshaft and midpipe lengthened... the cost just snowballs  My point here is that there’s more cost associated with the swap then just that of the drivetrain. Especially under my circumstances as I was swapping tranny’s and diff’s as well. $.02 But well worth it of course    simpreza2 04-17-2005, 07:01 PM missing O2 sensors ($200) Forgot those...I guess I also need them too. :o xcntrk75 04-17-2005, 08:26 PM Forgot those...I guess I also need them too Man that was my motto throughout the entire swap project. I must have made that statement a dozen times or more. I planned for 8 months and the portions that I thought would be a problem were easy and the parts that I thought would be easy caused problems. Don’t forget to look into sway-bar, fuel pump & controller, and any drive/propeller shaft issues you may encounter. At least that’s where I ran into problems… simpreza2 04-17-2005, 09:05 PM Man that was my motto throughout the entire swap project. I must have made that statement a dozen times or more. At least that’s where I ran into problems… Got all the covered already. ;) When the guy said he would give me everything I need, he game me everything. And now that I think about it I proabibly have the o2 sensors at home with the engine and everything else. chrismindless 04-17-2005, 11:43 PM where are you getting this motor from?? Im shopping now for a motorswap. 99subi 04-18-2005, 02:30 AM im getting it from this guy i know chrismindless 04-18-2005, 09:10 AM ok i see chrismindless 04-18-2005, 09:16 AM When you do this swap, how much power do you think you are gonna make outta your wrx setup? Stage 4 type setup? Jaxx 04-18-2005, 11:57 AM the cost just snowballs and Forgot those...I guess I also need them too. are words to live by i find that people that can get swap done for 2k or less (which is possible) tend to have back yards full of parts from their other swaps this keepgin the cost down 99subi 04-18-2005, 12:39 PM i havent decided on hat kind of setup yet i think im goin to get a turbo back exhaust just to start off and then go form there Randoramma 04-18-2005, 01:59 PM I am under 2000 so far for an 02 WRX motor only swap, buy I still need harness and PS assembly. I figure $2500 diy installed and that includes 3"-2.5" exhaust. Homemade WRX 04-18-2005, 02:39 PM ok for the cost, that really depends on how much you get the motor, wiring, sensors, crossmember and ecu for...then add things like a clutch, lightened flywheel(optional)....and other costs. The range of deals on the motors and what they come with just ranges too much to really give a accurate price. mine was just over $4k for all the items mentioned above along with all materials needed to do the swap. benjaminetanyahoo 04-18-2005, 02:44 PM For that much a WRX swap seems smarter from Aeroism seeing that they swap the full harness and you get a full interior swap as well for 6500 including labor. I'm thinking of going this way simply because finding a full swap and completing will run you almost just as much... SubyDuz 04-18-2005, 04:02 PM I will be parting out my '03 WRX motor with the following as a set: UTEC w/map selector, dynoed at 240.7 whp in SLC, UT 4800 ft PDE up pipe downpipe no cats PERRIN FMIC, PERRIN intake Blitz BOV Tanabe SMR ECU with Harness Transmission complete sub frame everything brakes, axles, links TRUST timing Belt, just installed Radiator, oil cooler, pretty much everything motor has 60K and has never pulled a CEL, with over 40K in modified miles, mostly freeway miles. Let me know if you are interested, I am selling this drop in for who ever wants it all. greenemac2003 05-23-2005, 09:47 PM You'll spend around $3-5k if you do all of the work. Make sure you buy a motor from an engine salvage company that gives a warranty. Believe me you won't regret it. Don't ever buy an engine from anyone you don't know even on the forums or you will pay the ultimate price!!!!!!!!!!!!! Eby 05-23-2005, 11:34 PM are words to live by i find that people that can get swap done for 2k or less (which is possible) tend to have back yards full of parts from their other swaps this keepgin the cost down Or they just shop smart(salvaged auctions), my first swap was well under 2 grand, and I hadn't owned a single Subaru before it. chrismindless 05-26-2005, 11:40 AM ^^^ You mean the salvage was $2000??? Pm me with details, im looking for a salvage now. Eby 05-26-2005, 10:18 PM The salvaged car was $2100. Between doing the work myself, and selling off parts I didn't need from the wreck, I came out well under 2 grand in money spent on the swap. This was back at the end of 2001 about 5 months after the release of the WRX. I've heard of wrecks going for cheaper than what I paid nowadays. Radlad 05-29-2005, 10:15 AM can anyone buy at salvage auctions? and if I can how do i go about that? It would be so easy to just buy a wreck and rip it apart for around 2K or less. Eby 05-29-2005, 11:04 AM It depends on your state, some have laws that you need a license. I found out about them in my state by talking to some guys at a body shop. chrismindless 06-11-2005, 03:05 AM any links? subbyspeed 06-11-2005, 03:10 AM i haven't really looked extensively on this site, but you may find something..
