instead of dealing with all the wiring mess of a JDM sti swap, could I just get the closed deck ej20 block and put my 99 SOHC heads on it and run the factory wiring with aftermarket fuel control such as an S-AFC and turbo?
now...from workin on honda's, I know S-AFC is a garbage solution to fuel delivery but I guess I am just using it as an example for fuel control.

you could but from what I know the 99's are MAP making them a lot harder to aftermarket turbo and control with a S-AFC. I have heard the 98's DOHC MAF engines are a lot easier to use piggybacks.
A lot of people around here prefer swaps because it's cleaner and saves you a lot of money down the road...
prolly belongs in aftermarket
eh.. 2.0 block +99 heads + stock USDM WRX injectors(blue) +emanage isn't too bad a solution as ghetto swaps go
you need the timing control as much if not more than the fuel control

I thought 99's were MAF's. 00-01 were the first MAP's. 98's are MAS, which is basically a MAF, right? It's just that the 99's were the film sensor type, that made them more susceptible to damage via contamination or vibration, I thought.
Depends on how much boost you want to run. I've got SOHC RS heads on an STi shortblock and an S-AFC, running 7 psi boost, and it runs great. Timing control on the stock ECU was able to handle it.

exactly what I needed to know...I only wanna run like 7psi for right now on the scooby. I have been building up turbo hondas for a while, but I am not quite familiar with the subarus yet so I wouldnt be doing any large budget for this I just want some descent power and a fun car to drive...dont need to boost it to like 20psi...(yet)
