I have searched around for this and nobody has said yea or nay. Can I put the led festoon bulbs in place of my dome lights and maplights?
This is what I've found online and want to put in...

Swapping out the factory dome and map lamps for led's will work fine.

I have read a report that they are not as bright.
Later note - I have found this now

What's the advantage of LED's?
I looked at fitting them in my interior lights but decided the normal bulbs worked better, brighter and cheaper.
Having said that brighter ones are now available with 18 LED's in the housing.

These should be bright enough, maybe brighter than the normal bulbs.

They may not be. Led's are focused to a certain angle, thus limiting the amount of light spread around the interior of your car, so thats a disadvantage. The advantage of using led's is most last 10-15 years,lol...if you keep your car that long. They also use way less power, not that the interior and map lights use alot( I'm guessing 30 watts for all three). I think most people change them out because they give a crisper, whiter light(if you're using white), than reg incandescent bulbs. And if they want to change the color from white, the colored led's give a way better color then putting those rubber caps on a bulb. I would think those ones you found with 18 should be pretty bright....:)

I've ordered some of the 18 LED bulbs. I will let you know how they work.
The existing bulbs are about 5 watts each. I stay with white. Coloured bulbs make map reading difficult and that's what the lights are for.
Function is first on my cars, then make what's there look right.

I always believed LED's were the way to go. They use less energy, last longer, and usually have greater light output. As one of the guys said though, the led's only point one way. How about putting LED's as your tailights and stuff? like swapping it that way? would that work? sorry if im jacking your thread... dont mean too... :p

The 18 LED interior bulbs arrived today. The standard bulbs are 30mm long, the LED's are 36mm long so they won't fit. Fortunately I have other places to use them. Their output does seem good but I have only seen them in daylight so far.
I tried fitting a LED to my rear fog light. As the LED's didn't use the reflector, it seemed less bright than the normal bulb. I also tried putting a bulb into the unused LH rear fog (they only fit one in UK, how about US?). The bulb was notcably less bright than the RH one as there is no reflector. I tried a LED and it was brighter than a bulb in there due to it's directional nature.
When using a LED you can see the seperate light sources. That's not an issue though, I am looking for the highest light output. It does make judging the brightness of two different types of light difficult though.
On a completely different note and well O/T, the torch bulbs that Ultraleds sell for Mini maglights
http://www.ultraleds.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=682&osCsid=862296d01bba47f9646088176008ac6e
and their normal torch bulb

both impressed me.

Well, I dont know about the US spec models, but I dont have any "rear" fog lights on my car. I'm pretty sure the US ones are the same.
