Last night I learned this lesson the hard way. :(
My nylon barb I used for the coolant temp gauge cracked under boost and sent coolant everywhere. It looked like my engine was on fire since smoke was billowing out of the hood scoop.
The details are: I tapped the coolant hose between the coolant reservior and turbo with a brass tee (1/8 NPT and 2 3/8" female connectors) with 2 nylon 3/8" male -> 1/2" barb fittings (couldn't find brass).
It held for a good month but just broke loose yesterday.
I just pulled the car over immediately and came back with my tools. It was an easy fix (just replace with the stock hose for now) but I lost over a gallon of coolant in the short time the car was running.
Now I'm trying to source the brass barbs, and I've learned a valuable lesson. ;)
