-Horn doesn't work. Everything looks wired up. Possibly a fuse? Anybody know? Curious
could be the switch behind the wheel, also connects airbag...mine went, horn worked but airbag didn't...
-Front and rear brakes need to be done to pass inspection apparently. Just find a shady shop if it even makes it that far.

upgrade fronts to WRX brakes, cheap, works well and you will need it!!! the rear, do Legacy H6 brakes if you have the money otherwise just do any upgraded stock brake set up
or you could spend some real money and get some nice upgraded brakes...AP, wilwood, sti/subaru, brembo, stoptech, etc...

Lightweight beams...mmmmm. Do you have a weight goal for the car, i'm sure it could get down to a pretty low number depending on how much you are trying to take off.

Very rewarding... Nice, wanna trade drivetrains? :p The 1.8 is beast, no turbo lag I promise. Why can't somebody wreck their 05 STI and give it to me for free to swap over? :D

Still doesn't take back the choked up feeling when I pulled the dash off.

Well the dash is out, I wanted to cry after seeing the wiring. I have now understood what people go through with doing a swap and I haven't even started.

If you have the V6 dash harness, you don't have to take your dash out to do the wiring.

benjaminetanyahoo
05-24-2005, 10:54 AM
No V6 harness here, hell I don't have any harness. I have been accumulating exterior parts for the time being while I prep the car for paint.

After that is all done I will begin to search for a drivetrain...

Well scored a package deal

1050 shipped for

Genuine STI Wagon Spoilers with mounting hardware 650
Genuine JDM Clear Corners for 45
Genuine V6 Rear Bumper with Spats for 325

I could have gotten a brand new V6 Rear Bumper for 450 shipped unpainted, but the spats make it worth my while.

I need to start taking pictures

Only need sideskirts and V6 front lip and that's it for a long time... :p

uhh... please?

It won't be much to look at except a shell with a 1.8L engine in it and beautiful white. I can always take pictures of my parts, that would probably be better to look at. I was thinking of just taking pictures of my progression. Once I finally get it painted Steel Grey Mica then I'll be proud :p

That's about the right price for those spoilers. Very hard to come by even replicas. I paid pretty close (after shipping, duty and taxes) to that for the USDM ones, with the top being a replica. A good buy.

The spoilers are 600 a pop brand new.

I think I'm set on not changing the body color even though I dream of Steel Grey Mica...

I have all my form pieces almost and want to focus on function meaning drivetrain so rather than dumping 4k into just a paintjob I might as well put it to use ya know.

Anybody know if the white on Impreza are the same across the board, meaning Aspen White or is my 93 a different white?

linsavy
06-02-2005, 11:09 PM
My 1997 brochure refers to "glacier" white. There is a "pure" and "feather" white too. http://www.catherineandken.co.uk/sti/paint.html

benjaminetanyahoo
06-03-2005, 03:16 PM
Thanks for the info, I just talked to a body shop over the phone and to get the paintjob I want it's going to cost 5600 or more. No point in dumping that much money into JUST paint. Rather get the thing running and deal with the color later...

Sounds Sweet so far Ben! Where did you order your package deal / spoilers from and were you happy with the service and product? Did the MRT waist spoiler fit as well?

Hows the dash and the interior coming along? I loathe my tan/poo-brown interior :(
I was thinking of doing an RS dash conversion if I can find a cheap replacement etc.... although the wiring and plumbing scares me

Looking forward to pics:)

Got my deal from Gr8wheels, haven't seen the products yet so I can't comment but according to the pictures it looks good. Sent back the MRT spoiler, getting a refund from Renick hopefully sometime soon.

Dash and interior is completely out and yeah the tan interior had to go immediately!!!

Dash wise I'm stuck plan wise. In a perfect world I could find a wrecked WRX or STI for a decent price and do a FULL swap over to the wagon. Make wiring a ton load easier in my opinion. Fitting the dash and the rest of the parts would be a pain but I think it's managable.

So anybody want to go in on a wrecked STI, half and half, but I get the dash, motor and drivetrain :p

Only if I can have the Carpet!! I would love the v6 momo 4 spoke wheel... and seats... and dash.... and .... :p

Did you find the body moldings were just stick on, or did they use clips as well? (I am asssuming that they will be the same for the 97-01 wagons - anyone?)

Gotta get rid of all that black trim on my "glacier white". I hope that I can peel those bump strips off and paint them to match. Also want to prime and paint the mirrors by hand. I was thinking of leaving the mirror mounts black and doing the mirror housing white (anyone done this?).... hmmmmm whatcha think?

benjaminetanyahoo
06-03-2005, 05:41 PM
I hate all the black molding!!!

Nothing is peel off, the body moldings leave holes in the ALL doors, and the bumper strip doesn't come off. Be easier to find a V6 bumper.

By the time I'm done buying from Gr8wheels I should have just bought the whole damn car... :p
