Ok I got a free replacement heatshield when I got my helix catted dp. The thing worked great for 3 weeks, but lately it was making a vibrating sound, so I knew something was wrong.
I popped the hood and noticed that the weld on the shield broke, so the cover was now just resting on the DP!!! Basically I pulled out the cover and now I have no heatshield, so this leads to my question...
How bad is it to be driving without a heatshield? What are the effects? Can I hurt anything?
This weekend I will have to hack up my stock heatshield so it kits the new DP, but for now I have to remain "heatshieldless".

you probably will be more susceptible to heat soak, if ur running a TMIC. but dont worry your car shouldnt blow up.

is heatsoak just that the intercooler will be getting heated up so it wont be cooling as well??

many people run w/o the heatshield, including me. I wouldn't loose sleep over it. If you're hardcore about going to the track then you might want to look for a replacement but other then that i wouldn't worry. More of a reason to get an upgraded turbo and FMIC later down the road :disco:

i opened up the aluminum panel under the hood that lets air in from the hood scoop. I enlarged the opening to the entire height and width still retaining enough material to keep the rubber seal there for the intercooler. force more air in there to solve the problem. e-mail me for pics.

Get DEI header wrap and stainless locking ties from Summit Racing...I can put my hand on my DP 2 minutes after I turn off the engine, not that that's my idea of fun... :lol:
