I'm taking off the gloves guys, I'm banking on every evo I encounter.
ButtDyno 04-20-2005, 12:33 AM If you're STiChucky stop talking :)
DoctorNick 04-20-2005, 12:59 AM Sounds like someone needs to check out some other threads that are getting attention in this forum
InfamousDX 04-20-2005, 01:32 AM It happens man... it's the internet. Just ignore it.
burrito007 04-20-2005, 04:20 AM yeah just tell them to try that in t3h OT... they wouldnt make it out alive
franke3c 04-20-2005, 04:35 AM ...........
whitesti04 04-20-2005, 05:47 AM where are these fast evos because everyone ive seen so far theyve been getting a spanking at the track by yours truly
kinger 04-20-2005, 08:53 AM Man I'm sick of this, why is a drag race the end all to a cars performance. If I want my sti to run 9's I can make it. Its stupid to compare these cars on one metric alone. When I bought my STI I test drove an EVO, both are sweet cars. I think its silly to take a AWD machine run $10/gal fuel in it, alcohol injection, NOS, gigantic non linear turbo, blah blah and get one number and claim a victory. I continue to drive my STI every day, use the cruise every day, and blast through the snow/rain every day. Each to thier own...
SilverSurfer04STi 04-20-2005, 09:06 AM Why is it so important for them to prove they are better and represent??? Almost as if they are trying to prove to everybody that their cars aren't inferior. I could care less about one drag event that the fast subies making big power didn't show up at. Let them brag and talk if it makes them feel better.
motorcitywrx 04-20-2005, 11:27 AM I drive a evo and am both forums....and to be honest the whole evo/sti/wrx battles are getting so old. I really love both cars. Not saying that anyone is but don't go and hate the whole evo community.....both trees have a few bad apples :p

Exactly the same way I feel about drag racing. Well put.
robertrinaustin 04-20-2005, 11:39 AM Remeber, the average age of the EVO owner is probably 5 years or more younger than the STi owner. They have a different mentality.
why let that stuff bother you?
It just amazes me how some people have nothing better to do than argue "who's dad's can beat up who" this is a hobby and a career for very few, I dont see why people take it so seriously. They're completely entitled to their opinions as far as Im concerned, ignorant or not.
F22-Raptor 04-20-2005, 02:07 PM It doesn't bother me at all. Let them talk.. 10s is nice but anyone with money can do it. Heck I seen a minivan run 10s ;)

How did you arrive at this tidbit of info? I'm not being an ass, you just made me wonder. :) Come to think of it, most of the STi owners I know/see seem to be in the 25-30 age range.
Beeker 04-20-2005, 04:01 PM im 20 and drive an STI, wish i could have test drove both but the interior of the STI and it's complete sexyNesS sold me.
jmolaver 04-20-2005, 04:45 PM both great cars, both have their share of idiot owners.. it's a shame..
it's also a shame that people think a 1/4mi time is the be-all end-all of performance measurement of a car.. show me a quarter mile, laptimes at a few roadcourses, brake distances, etc..
that being said those Evos ran some great times http://www.msprotege.com/vbb225/images/smilies/icon996.gif

Where the heck in Cinci have you been hiding??
V6TurboTA 04-20-2005, 05:16 PM Anyone who thinks "I can make my car run a 9" and hasnt even been in the 11's is nothing but a dreamer and I'd venture to say wouldnt have the foggiest clue on how to do so. If it was easy, everyone would be doing it. PERIOD.
This forum sucks lately... and this EVo discussion aint helpin at all.

I can make mine run 8's
norexyet 04-20-2005, 09:14 PM Maybe we can do a real track event and not a 1/4 again
speeds foe 04-20-2005, 09:38 PM The evo crowd I've run into are younger & a lil bit disrespectful. I'm only 25, but have been around the import block. I was a little nervous on my wrx purchase. I was particulary unaware of this vehicles tradition & crowd. I don't have any complaints about the ride or the peeps. This site IMO is one of the most informative and well organized.
Being that the young evo crowd I have seen is about 2-4yrs younger than I. They probably need some re-assurance in their purchase. Hell I plan on picking up an evo in the near future. I know what the evo is capable of and this also makes it that much desirable. I just hope that time will work it's magic on the evo scene and root out the posers just as we have had ours.
Mitsubishi is a "young" popular brand. We all know when the 06' eclipse comes out that that will be a double dose of trolls who will invade this site. I wish them all the glory with a great tune friendly engine.
zavigm 04-20-2005, 10:25 PM There's a reason Mitsu only markets to young people.
This is what the old peeps (http://rwebs.net/ghostsqd/a6m2.htm) remember when you talk about Mitsubishi. Dropping bombs on Pearl Harbor, kamikazi ish.
You're not going to get a lot of Buick converts into a Mitsubishi.
Alpinestar 04-20-2005, 10:30 PM Honestly i think drag racing is just ****. Take it to the hills of monte carlo or scandinavia for a test of who really has a better car and driver.

I beg to differ these boys are into the low 10's:

I don't want a 9 sec car but don't think I don't know what it would take. Its not easy just taking time as more advanced aftermarket solutions come out. I don't want to start a pissing match so lets just leave it at that.
sonicowrx03 04-20-2005, 11:10 PM There are a few point here that I wish to address:
1) The STI owners are not 5 years older than the EVO Owners, I don't know were this came from or who started it but this is just a speculation and moreover it has nothing to do with the mentality
2) Yes indeed, the 1/4 mile track does not really measure the capabilities of a car, perhaps auto X's or track laps are fair for comparing the performance of STI'S and EVO'S
3) It is a fact that the EVO's are for the second year in a row running much faster than their counter parner STI's, maybe because there is not many STI's tuned to the levels of the EVO's or maybe because not all the "fast" STI's showed up to the event.
We don't need to start the phycological war of EVO's are faster and better, ot STI have greater torque. Both cars are great, they are the best cars in the world for $30000 range, they truly out perform all the competitors and even $80000 sport cars. Don't let the EVO=STI shot out numbers fool you, yes there was majority wins for the EVO's but you can make many STI's run 10's if you dump money on them. currently driving my EVO MR but used to have a 430 flywheel hp WRX

Yes but don't forget that even the old a$$ eagle talons and Eclipses with the 4g63 engine were running even faster times than the EVO's last year at the WRX/STI/EVO shoot out.
As far as I know there is a guy in Australia named Riggoli or somthing like that running in the 9's at 140 plus with the WRX but he has a stroker kit, there is Talons in the 8's at 160 plus, That is nuts!!!
please see this http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/timeslips.php
darksands 04-20-2005, 11:35 PM just post "your car may be faster, but my penis is still bigger than yours"... I mean, whats with all this comparison. Anyone with money can make their car go fast. I know Civics that run 9's. And motorcycles... They win. Let it go, theres always someone faster.
fat angel 04-20-2005, 11:38 PM i think the thing is that most people who buy subarus arent interested in going fast in a straight line. the way i look at it is t some point the road your on is going to have turn. a guy i work with was bothering me about how his trans am was in the 11's so one time we went out for a ride and it didnt matter how fast he went in a straight line because he was still behind me.
i didnt buy this car for that reason and i'm sure alot of others on this forum didnt either. if i wanted a car that that was fast in a 1/4 mile i would have went a different route i'm sure.
i love my sube and want to be able to drive mine every day for awhile even if it's to the store right down the road.

<snip>
Its from a poll done on Evolutionm.net vs polls here on NASIOC. Over 50% of the owners are 25 or younger. The numbers were worse than that the previous 2 years, where it was more than 60%.

A418t81 04-21-2005, 01:41 AM Man, who cares what people over on Evom have to say. Everybody thinks that their car is better than the competition and for THEM, it probably is. I like both cars quite a lot. The interiors of the '05s are incredible, but I realize the power potential of the Evo and that's what I am looking for at this point in my life. As a 23 y/o single adult, I wanted the more visceral experience while I have the chance to enjoy it.
I drove a Cobb stage 2 STi a few weeks ago and it was a lot of fun. The car is suuuuppper smooth which makes it *feel* slower than it really is. A fun thing about my Evo is the way the torque ramps up and SLAMS you into your seat at 3.5k rpms......makes the car feel like an absolute monster ;)
RebelZX 04-21-2005, 02:09 AM Evo owners have the right to brag after laying the smackdown two events in a row. The next WRX vs. Evo event is this summer. You want to shut up some evos? Get out to Etown and race. There will be AutoX at the event as well as drag racing. I have a feeling the evos will dominate again.

I think you missed the point we were trying to make here. WE DON'T CARE. If it takes you being faster than most Subis to feel more like a man then go do it.. I would rather dump money in my house where I get an investment back..I have made a high ten second low 11 car and I am still paying for it.. When cars run that fast they are always in need of constant maintenance etc.. I would rather drive something quick that lasts..
