I have been looking at the borala and cobb headers. On the cobb website there is an option to have your headers coated and many pepople have said to wrapp the headers for head and rust protection reasons. How necessary is this?

question should be
do you or dont you want a check engine light?
my headers (Borla) have been wrapped since day one
no CEL for me... :)
try searching in this forum for "wrap headers"
this is an endless debate.

I didn't wrap mine and my rear o2 sensor got fried.
Any connection?

if you are going to buy cobbs...pay for the coating! they are not SS and will degrade w/o some sort of protection.
edit: header wrap will most likely increase rate of rusting not impede it. of course this isnt a big issue (my borlas are wrapped + painted (both the headers & wrap because i had enough to do both).

From what Ive seen with CELs its almost a crap shoot if you get one or not. Coating/wraping is supposed to help, but theres plenty of people(me included) that have them. My Borlas were coated by SwainTech, for some reason you cant buy wrap in NY anymore. ohwell im happy. but more to your point, yes you should do something to keep the heat in, it helps power, and protect the rest of the engine bay, theres a reason those crappy metal pieces are around the stock one.

if you get a cobb coat. if you get borlas wrap (because you dont want to waste money)
