My mom has an 00 outback sedan and is having Some idle issues. When sitting in gear, such as at a light, the idle will climb or fall and occasionally stall. Mechanic said it was the air idle control and needed to be replaced $300 plus for a new one. He said he would try and locate a used one, anyone have a clue what and where it is and if I can get one cheaper? Thanks, CHRIS.......

Its bolted to the side of the throttle body and it can be cleaned with carb cleaner (or something similar). Find someone handy under the hood and save a bunch of money.

Just had to do this on my '97 OBS EJ22.

Try a WTB post here, that's what I did. Less than 24 hours after posting the WTB, I had one offered to me fo $80.

Three bolts, 2 hoses, and 1 wiring harness connection and you're done.

Here's a nice pic of the item you'll be working on. Be sure to clean with fuel injector cleaner, the port leading into the intake, and the removable metal plate within this port as these commonly accumulate carbon and other goo.

Feel free to PM me if needed as I've just performed this fix.

If you have no luck finding the part with a WTB, try this, this was my Plan B:

It has already been cleaned to no avail, so I need a new one. I will try the WTB forum and see what happens, I hate to ask this but do I ask for 2.5 or 2.0? I believe it is 2.5 n/a motor 00 outback sedan. I don't have easy access to the car, thanks guys.

In '00, an Outback would have had a 2.5L.
