I needed to put together an archive of my photos for reference purposes and to back up the files. So after going through 10,000+ photos of rallying from five countries, I narrowed it down to 435 of the better ones from 1999-2005. I thought it would be fun to share them with you.
Most of the photos are from 2002 on, since that is when I switched to digital, and I did not have many of my shots scanned from before that (and nothing scanned from before 1999.)

The photos are arranged chronologically starting with 1999, but are otherwise in random order.

So here it is -> Greatest Hits! (www.morgansegal.com/greatest_hits)

That's kinda scary. How'd you get to photograph him? Also, did you use some sort of strobe off to the left? How'd you get that lighting over there on him and the model before this shot?

It was for a magazine, and yes, I used a stobe at camera left.

Mike, I believe I will be at PP this year

I'm sorry to ask so many questions, but where did you come up with the poses for these guys? Specifically the Nicky Grist and Petter Solberg shots.

It is about how you interact with the person, and make them comfortable in front of the camera. Sometimes I coach them, other times I just let them go and do their thing (or a combination) Nicky was is a ham, so he was easy, Petter took a slight bit more effort, but he had just came off shakedown and was a bit amped. Markko Martin was very difficult

Just curious but, why 435 greatest hits ? Couldn't you maybe shoot for 100 best ? 435 is days of looking thru photos. I love rally shots but, even I can't sit still for 435 photos. Some rally nice work in there anyway.

A lot better than looking through the 10k+ photos I have

 You did not read my original post did you? it is an archive for reference purposes, I get requests all the time for photos and each time, I have to go through and find photos, resize them and make a new gallery for the potential client. This way they are all in one place and all resized, referenced and ready for viewing

My main website, which is my portfolio, is narrowed down to the 40 best rally shots (albeit it has not been updated in a while), which is perhaps more akin to your attention span ;)

The guy driving the old orange 911 (it's in a UK rally so it's RHD, remember) is not looking for pace notes...he's trying to find 3rd gear! Shifting an old 911 (esp one that's torquing the bodyshell while lifting an inside wheel) is like stirring a bucket of jello with a straw.

Nice pics, Morgan. Glad to see a shot of our humble silver LDR Subie jumping onto a bridge at Defi Ste Agathe.

Cheers,

Ya 40 is probably more my speed these days ;)
I shot like 500 pictures at Rally Mexico and I still haven't looked thru them all. I really need to cut down on the coffee..

This ish is insane. Your consistency has increased over the years to top level shots everytime. That one of Davies cracks me up. This one from Mexico is really sweet. Look at beef workin the TC

Hmm, it was supposed to be there, apparently I missed it, after a while it was hard to keep track. I will have to add it in after the rally this weekend

Thanks
