Great News!! (for me) Now that the fiance has a GC8 eagerly awaiting my USDM EJ20, I am ready to purchase a COMPLETE V7/V8 drivetrain swap.

Someone convince whether to go with a V7 or a V8

Who has already purchased a front clip or complete drivetrain and can recommend a trustworthy source?

the version 7 drivetrain often comes without DCCD. If you want this you have a better chance by getting version 8. However DCCD is a bit of wiring and DCCD controllers are hard to find and expensive.

Version 8 if I recall correctly has taller 5th and 6th gears, while version 8 spec-c has short 5th and 6th gears like all version 7s. Great for acceleration, bad for gas milage.

In terms of strength, they are equal.

Don't confuse V8 with USDM V8 and a JDM V8 . JDM V8 have the same short gear ratios. Except some special models come with a different final drive. USDM Sti/V8 has the taller 5th/th gear.

Seems like a very good deal to me. From all the other ones I've bought, this is by far the cheapest.

I dont need the DCCD. Anything else i should know as i'm getting myself into this swap? I found a V7 and i'm leaning towards that right now. What hidden required parts are there, and do i need a new front crossmember to get it in an 02?

What was your total cost? Did they seem helpful? We just might be V7 buddies tomorrow!

Total was $8830.00 with shipping(to buisness) and fee's for crossing the border. They were more than helpful. They seemed like a good group of guys. The package will arrive late this week. I got a 01 rs. What year is your car?

I have the Version 7/8 ECU pinouts, but for most of the wiring diagrams you can use 2002 WRX Diagrams. techinfo.subaru.com will be your best friend during the swap unless you have the FSMs. There is going to be slightly different information ie: The Version 7 is lacking alot of the emissions stuff that the USDM cars have (Like TGV's, Fuel Tank Pressure, Fuel Temp, stuff like that) and the Version 7 has AVCS where as the USDM Wrx's dont. Also, the Version 7 has 3 wires that go to the alternator instead of two (I believe the extra wire is used to turn the alternator off, or at least down, during high load situations to help with the parasitic loss much like the AC compressor does when you're under boost)

FWIW, They quoted me 9200 for shipping and customs fees to Tacoma, Washington (a business address).

A search uncovered this:

WRX_driver,

Could you send the Ver7 pinouts to badboetie@yahoo.com Thanks for the link also. It will go to good use.
