I have a 97 Legacy Outback Wagon 162,000 on the clock. The A/C appears to be working correctly when the A/C is switched OFF! The fan at the rear of the radiator runs, you can see the pipe from the thing that cools the A/C freezing etc.
However the moment I turn the blower fan to position 1 (or any postion for that matter) the fan at the rear of the radiator STOPS, and the A/C stops working. Pressing in the A/C button beside the blower fan doesn't make any difference.
The car cools down okay when I am driving more than say 40 MPH. My friendly mechanic (he doesn't like Subarus and thinks I am mad for getting one) can't work our where the problem and the manual doesn't help.
Has anyone else had this problem and if so what did they do to fix it.
Apprecite any help in this matter.
