View Full Version : Anyone dynamat (sound deaden) their entire interior?
tkarabian 04-25-2005, 02:23 AM Hello,
I have yet to buy my WRX (looking for an '03 wagon) but I might as well ask my questions now. Has anyone put dynamat, raamat, fatmat or anyother sound deadener all over your wrx interior? I would like as little road noise as possible, so I am planing on putting Dynamat extreme under the entire floor, all doors, the wheel wells, and the 5th door (remember, wagon). Has anyone done this? If you have, did you notice a large decrease in road noise? Anyone with wagon specific help would be great too, but I would love to hear from you sedan owners as well. Thanks.

I haven't yet listened personally, but a local STi owner had his trunk and all 4 doors done up... no noticeable difference he says. : \
I wonder if doing up the floor as well would yield any better results. I am also curious how much weight is added?
tkarabian 04-25-2005, 04:52 AM The added weight, good point. I'm coming from a 3500lbs A4 to a 3100lbs wagon, so the added weight wouldnt mean that much, but if it doesn't help at all, then I might as well keep it light.
I did my entire 05 STi. I pulled EVERYTHING out of the car except the Dash in different stages.
Did the whole floor trunk to dash, drove the car. Nice diff but not huge.
Next did the trunk lid, deck lid, and back of rear seat. Big diff.
Next did the rear quarter panels, rear doors, and front doors. Another big diff.
Then pulled the headliner out and did roof, this made the most noticable diff.
I haven't done the front wheel wells yet and I don't think I will. I pulled the stock RE070 tires off and put 615 Falkens on. This was the largest change to sound I could come up with. I had a Perrin turbo back on my car which is one of the loudest exhausts you can get. I have actually done 2 layers of dynamat in the entire trunk and lid and rear quarter panels. I finally ended up getting rid of the exhaust and went with another brand.
My STi is very quiet inside now. Everything was done with Dynamat and I did it all in steps as listed above in my own garage. It isn't that hard, just time consuming.
offset 04-25-2005, 09:30 AM Tons of links with info in the Car Audio section. Try searching there on 'raamat', 'dynamat', or 'deaden'. FWIW Rick from Raammat posts frequently on these boards and is super helpful; I highly promote his product.

richy_21 04-25-2005, 09:47 AM Yeah I also did it....I did it mainly because of my exhaust drone....in which I succeeded in it!! I also did it on my door, and every imaginable except for the roof liner.
Javier 04-25-2005, 07:14 PM Dynamat alone won't give you a great reduction in road noise. You need to get some ensolite or volara and lay that down wherever you can. Dynamat and similar products are designed to remove resonances from metal. You need to install some type of sound deadening foam in order to make an apprecialbe difference in road noise.
I don't know, mine sure is a lot quieter. But I wish someone had told me this before I covered my whole car with Dynamat, it would have been nice to do both for the maximum effect!
Where do you get ensolite or volara and how is the install of this product?

teiva-boy 04-25-2005, 09:18 PM Rick has it. Just use some spray adhesive to apply. Rick also sells this.

Yea, rick sells ensolite, and I'm pretty sure you can buy it and volara at places online. You can get 3M Super 77 adhesive at Home Depot to stick the stuff to just about anything...
silvrwrx21 04-26-2005, 02:34 AM i did all four doors and my trunk with dynamat extreme. its sweet for reducing bass vibrations but i didn't notice much in terms of road noise.
shadrool 04-26-2005, 10:43 PM i did my entire car- roof (biggest improvement); outter shell of doors, fenders, 1/4 panels; inner sheet metal of doors, and floor.
cascade 100%-
100% better than dynamat.
