Hi everyone,

Just wondering whether anyone might be able to suggest a good starting tire pressure for autox. I am just looking for a setting to start at which I can tweak as the day goes on. Thanks

Well, it depends.

-Tire type
-Wheels/tire size
-Suspension mods
-Surface
-Driving style
-Event conditions (weather)
-Amount of rotation desired
-Pressure for rotation crutch (high rears for stock)

Do a search here in the Motorsports forum for tire pressure and you'll wield quite an array of results. :)

I'd start at 45 all around.

I'm with ratt - mid forties is a good place to start... you can let the tires heat up and reduce pressure from there...

seems awfully high, is it common to run mid 40s?

My yokohamas seem to like it better at close to 50!

What club do you run with? The Dunlops aren't a legal SCCA tire. If it's not an SCCA club, you might be OK. Just don't want you to get there and find out you got bumped to a different, harder class.

thanks again for the advice guys. i will try them at 45 or so and see what happens. I always thought that more pressure = less grip, is this not true?

ernie

btw, i do not run with SCCA, i typically run with car clubs

ewright,
It's a dynamic bell curve. Plus you have to balance desired handling side effects like transitional response and tire rollover with the amount of grip desired. :)

biggly,

thanks for the clarification, does 45 psi sound like its off towards the right end of the bell curve?
