View Full Version : Rev-Lab.com Short Shifter Raffle

Nick
07-27-2001, 09:52 AM
Our friend Tibor from Rev-Lab (http://www.rev-lab.com) donated a shifter to the i-Club to be sold by the i-Club to help raise money.

Instead of trying to sell it outright... I thought that a good idea would be to hold a raffle for it instead.

I will be putting tickets up for sale the next few days in the i-Club Store for $5 a piece. That's a pretty good deal, I think, to be able to get one of these New $100 Rev-Lab Short Shifters for just $5! We'll draw the winner of the raffle on the 1st of September.

Because it's for donations you will be able to buy as many raffle tickets as you like... I will keep all the ticket stubs themselves here... but I will send you your ticket numbers via e-mail.

Here's a question for you. Is the shifter for the GC8s or the 02s? Or does it depend on what the winner wants?

caino - I already knew that Rev-Lab made one for the new age Impreza, but that does not mean that Nick was given that model. It is my understanding that <2002 shortshifters do not fit 2002 cars.

Right, the question wasn't whether they make one for our cars. The question was whether they donated an actual shifter, or just the price of one (in which case we could select the model).

Jordan

They donated the 'a' shifter (I don't physically have anything)... so if it has to be a different one I'm sure we can work that out with them... but it looks like from the description that the shifter is for all model years of all impreza.

Just to show caino that I am perfectly capable of finding info for myself:

*GC8 (1998-2001) RS short shifter pictured. GDA (WRX, other 2002 models) shifter is slightly different. These shifters are not cross-compatible with the different cars. A 2000 RS shifter will not work on a 2002 WRX.

So Nyahh! :p

Oh, and Nick, put me down for 5 tickets. Just tell me where to send the money! :D

Alright... I'll put the ticket link up in the store this weekend. I want to leave the contest open for a month... so I don't want to start it just yet... just wanted to build interest.

You will just be able to pick it from the store like any other item and enter the quantity you want in there.

I'm game. Once I see it in the store, I'll buy a ticket. :) I just hope it works on the 00RS

Dirty Canadian money? What's up with that? At least we can tell what denomination our bills are by its colour! And why is your money green in colour? ;)

Anywayz, to poke more fun at you Nick, RevLab is a CANADIAN company based out of Toronto Ontario. :D

Anywayz, thanx for giving us the heads-up on the raffle.

Oh yeah, one more Q -- once the "winner" has been drawn, is RevLab going to ship out the shifter or are you going to be the one shipping it? Why am I asking this -- cauz if RevLab is shipping it out, then I won't have to pay duty on it! :D I'll have to pay the Canadian GST on it though

It's easy...

American Board = American Funds :)

I've got this shifter in my GC8, I wouldn't trade it for anything.... LOVE IT!!!

Rev-Lab.com
07-28-2001, 03:57 PM
Yep, we're canadian :)

Anyhoo, whoever wins the shifter, we can ship it out to you wherever you are. If in the states, I'll ship it as a gift so duty is waived, since the winner didn't actually "buy" it.

And if the winner is in canada, no problems either. Also, in regards to the new age or previous gen impreza, the shifter is slightly different between the platforms, so whoever wins simply needs to tell us what they have and we'll ship the proper shifter- simple!

Good luck to all.

Anyone who is wondering whether or not to get in on this raffle should do it. I just installed this shifter in my car and it is awesome. I have not tried any other short shifters but I highly recommend this one.

Penphoe: Just poking a little fun at our friends to the North... don't think I can't hear you guys sharpening your ice skates getting ready to come down and take out cheese! ;)

Anyway... The raffle will start on the 1st and the tickets will be available until the end of the month.

Thanks James for letting people know about the shifter.

Good Luck everyone... and keep your eyes on the store for the tickets to go on sale the 1st!

Okay....so it will be the GC8 or GDA shifter. Even though the description says "For 1999-2002 Subaru Impreza ", I assume the GC8 will fit the '98. Correct?

So, if I go in for 2 tickets, and lets say I win, can I just donate it right back to the I-Club to do another raffle with it to raise more money?

Scoob-13, if you win, enjoy it! We'll do the freebies :)

Beethoven, it will fit a 98, the only difference is that the plate surrounding the shifter will have to be bent up a little bit right above where the linkage is. When we designed them we tested on a 99, 2000, 2001 and 2002 wrx. But when I installed one on a 98 I noticed this little thing. The plate doesn't have to be bent much, just stuff a flathead screwdriver in between and give it a push and the linkage will clear no problem.

Again, I say there are TWO separate shifters - one for the previous gen Impreza and one for the new age impreza, so don't worry! We have you covered!

The new age shifter also fits Legacy GT models so those with Legacies can jump right in on this too.

Pardon the lack of car savvy.

What's a short throw shifter? What makes a short throw shifter better than a stock one?

Thanks.

Got some questions:

The red things are obviously shifter bushing. What is that little shaft thing to the right of the picture of the shifter next to the bushings?

Does it come with installation instructions?

How's it going on the Rev-Lab Titanium Shift Knob and do you have the WRX logo(looking just like the badge on the car) as an optional engraving?

Is there any way to know how many tickets have been bought already to size up our odds? :)

jblaine

Yeah, that's what I thought. "Don't answer this guy because he doesn't deserve to enter if he doesn't even know what one is"

Would it help if I promised not to enter?

I'd love an answer.

No, that's not the case at all, I just haven't checked the forums for a few days because we've been busy actually filling orders :)

A short throw shift lever changes the fulcrum point and angle of the lever to reduce the distance you have to physically move the shift lever to get into the next gear.

The shift knob will also sit a little bit lower, by about an inch. Throw is reduced by about 40%, it's as short as it can be without having to replace the linkage.

The red things are bushings, but since that picture was taken, we changed the design slightly and do not package the shifter with a shifter barrel (which is what that cylinder is). You can simply reutilize your stock pivot bushings and barrel. Just pop them out of the stock one and insert into the shortshifter.

If you guys need questions answered quickly, use email. You can email myself at rev-labdesigns@home.com or Arthur at rev-lab@home.com. We can respond much faster this way when we know we have a message waiting for us.

Thanks Rev-Lab...of course you're impartial really to who wins it. I was talking about the other entrants not wanting to describe it :)

You really should familiarize yourself with the search link at the top right of the page an amazing amount of information can be quickly located with it.

No barrel and no shifter bushings. We are packaging them like the kartboy shifter now and have revised the design of the shifter to utilize the stock pivot bushings and barrel better.

It was starting to get expensive to do the bushings so instead of raising the price of the shifter we redesigned it slightly. It functions exactly the same though.

Yes, I'm afraid there is. We had to switch our web host to another server, and it's going to take a day or two for the DNS to switch over.

For now, you can access our site by going to http://members.home.net/rev-lab

Sorry!

Last chance to buy a ticket for a shot at the shifter.

The raffle closes tonight. The winner will be announced after all the tickets are counted and the winner is drawn sometime this weekend. If not before the winner will be announced, and notified on Monday.
