View Full Version : Maybe moving to Chico area...
Draken 04-28-2005, 04:50 PM I'm coming out for an interview next week in/around the Chicao area. Just curious if there is much of a Subie presence. Also, anyone running autocross or track days?
I use to live in Oregon and ran the Atwater NT and ProSolo a few years back when i had my 2.5RS.

CatchMyDrift 04-28-2005, 11:24 PM Im in Chico! There are TONS of Subies around here. Unfortunitely most are driven by old people. ( And are STOCK Outbacks ) But there are a few modded ones around and a good amount in Sacramento. Hit me up man when you head over.

Draken 04-29-2005, 12:17 PM Its not for sute yet, but If the interview goes good I'll probably take it. BTW...I heard Cali only has 91 octane...is this true? I am currently tuned for 93 winter gas.

CatchMyDrift 04-29-2005, 03:00 PM Yea 91 Is unfortunitely the highest at the pump. But there is an airport in Chico you can get higher. Also there is a local speedway here. Can I ask what kind of business your getting into? Obviously it must be pretty sweet to come all this way.

Draken 04-29-2005, 03:24 PM I'm an Engineer...and yes, Thunderhill is a nice enticement. I ran it once with my RS when I lived in Oregon.

CatchMyDrift 04-29-2005, 03:47 PM Are you familier with any of the tuning shops around here? Ex: Subaru Specialists ( Formally know as "S-Squared" ), Gruppe-S, Aeroism Research, etc?

lol ok bendar
El Supremo 05-03-2005, 11:19 PM The Great Supremo lives in Chico (lucky you). 2002 wrx wagon, stage 4+. Thunderhill Raceway is a great drive from Chico. Hwy 45 to 162 past I-5, all rice fields, no people, along the Sacramento River. Not really allot of tuners in Chico who know what their doing. Subaru Specialists in Sacramento is the closest. Nate's a great tuner with a Mustang dyno. Easy to get to also. SS is in Northern Sacramento (Richards Blvd to Sunbeam Ave) so you don't even pass through the city.
Draken 05-04-2005, 01:16 PM I'll be coming down tonight...interview tomorrow. I'm hoping it goes good, as I'm looking forward coming back out west. I lived in Southern Oregon for most of my life, until this past year in Vermont.
Any of the tuning shops good with EcuTek?

El Supremo 05-04-2005, 04:51 PM Nate at Subaru Specialists in Sacramento (again closest to Chico) tuned my 2002 wrx wagon Ecutek. $650.00 initial cost. Have not taken it back for a follow-up tune yet. A couple good shops about 80 miles further than Sac in the Bay Area: Vishnu, Gruppe-S (allot of traffic to fight thru by the Bay however)

Draken 05-11-2005, 04:21 PM Well...I got the job. I'll be moving out around the first of June. If you see a silver '04 STi with Gold wheels and some Hoosier decals on it, that's me. I'll be living in Chico (no idea where yet) and working out of an office in Orland.
After I get settled, maybe we can have a little get together and grab a few beers.
Chris H.
wht052.5 05-11-2005, 04:57 PM Say "Hi" to Scapegoat Wax for me.
El Supremo 05-11-2005, 11:09 PM Orland? The little farm-town on Hwy 32 and I-5? That's about a 20 mile drive from Chico one-way on a very crowded (IMHO) two-lane road. Lucky you have the STI, you'll need it to pass the slow moving farmers.:)
Congratulations on the new job. June is a perfect time to move to Chico. All the students are done with finals in May and moving back to the Bay Area or where-ever and leaving many apartments and houses vacant for the Summer. You should be able to find a great place for cheap.
Supremo
Honkey3k 05-11-2005, 11:16 PM Blah, chico is dead in the summer compared to fall and spring. All the students leave to get drunk elsewhere.. however, bbqing up chico style is always fun with the captain
El Supremo 05-11-2005, 11:33 PM Float down the Sacramento River in an inner tube (tubing) in the summer with a beer in one hand and a babe in the other. He'll pass over Finch Landing on Hwy 32 everyday on his way to work. (Entrance to the Sac River floating). Quite a temptation. How much sick leave do you get:)
Honkey3k 05-12-2005, 02:57 AM how right you are
Draken 05-20-2005, 12:18 AM I'll be coming into town around June 1st. Look for me in my STi:

And yes...Orland looks like a little dumpy town. I'll only be "in the office" maybe a day or two a week, the rest of the time I'll be doing my engineering thing, apparently in a new F150 company truck. I guess the STi will get weekend duties, along with the Suzuki SV650s.
Well, anyways, a few more weeks and I'll be looking to meet up with some fellow subie peeps.

Impala SS AutoXer 05-20-2005, 03:27 AM Welcome to CA!
We have more than a few autocross events in the Bay Area with SCCA....head on out! Good excuse to spend the weekend down in the Bay Area ;)
Honkey3k 05-20-2005, 03:51 AM You'll soon find chico has a lot to offer... more if you are a college student, but their is plenty to do none-the-less.
CatchMyDrift 06-11-2005, 05:08 PM any updates? in town yet?
dlouie87 07-24-2005, 04:19 PM I'm from gridley...i have a Black STi.....Anyone want to meet up sometimes? I'll be attending chico state in like couple weeks
Honkey3k 07-24-2005, 04:20 PM all of us chico area folk should setup a meet at like In N Out or the wal mart parking lot or something
CatchMyDrift 07-24-2005, 04:57 PM w3rd. In N Out would be cool. There is a Krispy Crotch right next door too. ;)
Sti"izzle" 07-24-2005, 05:50 PM Count me in boys, I love to bring my Sti. Lets do this soon!
Honkey3k 07-24-2005, 06:30 PM Count me in boys, I love to bring my Sti. Lets do this soon!
Are you that CGM Sti that was next to me on the Esplanade with your buddy trying to race me?
Sti"izzle" 07-24-2005, 07:54 PM Possibly. I have an 05 CGM STI, but I don't remember racing another subaru. I do tend to drive fast everywhere, so you might have thought I was trying to race.
Honkey3k 07-24-2005, 08:16 PM nmah, you would have remembered... anyways. lets get this meet together.
Sti"izzle" 07-24-2005, 08:32 PM Lets do it a night this week, maybe Wednesday 7:30 at In N Out?
El Supremo 07-25-2005, 01:04 AM I'll be there (2002 blue wrx wagon, silver ssr comps). I thought I saw Draken (Silver STI, gold wheels) the other day in Chapmantown (E.14th st.) close to the 20th st. mall.
Bruce,
a.k.a Supremo
CatchMyDrift 07-25-2005, 01:42 AM I have to work 3-11:30 everyday except the weekends. Anyway we can arrange for the weekend? Saturday maybe?
Bendar
Draken 07-25-2005, 11:47 PM wow...didn't realize this got bumped. This Wednesday...7:30? I'll be there!
Chris H.
El Supremo 07-26-2005, 12:20 AM I can be there, but it looks like CatchMyDraft has to work. Maybe we can decide on a meeting time mutually beneifical to all on Wednesday.
Sti"izzle" 07-26-2005, 01:05 AM You guys find a time you like, and lets do it.
Honkey3k 07-26-2005, 04:01 AM i cant do 730
CatchMyDrift 07-26-2005, 04:25 AM You guys suck.
Honkey3k 07-26-2005, 02:51 PM I dont think we should have it at In N Out... i mean... i work their.... and the parking lot isnt exactly big
Honkey3k 07-26-2005, 03:40 PM I got it, how about the Chico Mall Parking Lot, on the side by the Sears Automotive Center... plenty of room and easier to get too.
El Supremo 07-26-2005, 03:44 PM The Caltrans Park & Ride on E.9th St. and Humboldt Ave. (has shade trees)
Walmart, the section of the parking lot closest to Forest Ave. where no one ever parks.
The Win Co lot closest to 20th St.
Raley's, the section of the lot closest to Notre Dame Blvd., again, where the lot is usually empty.
All of the above are easy to get to from HWY 99.
Honkey3k 07-26-2005, 03:51 PM http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=814073
CatchMyDrift 07-26-2005, 04:01 PM Yea I vote for the Sears area parking lot across from WinCo.
El Supremo 07-26-2005, 04:33 PM fine by me
Honkey3k 07-26-2005, 04:34 PM you guys are bumping the wrong thread ;)
