Got a ticket for tinted windows.

and this just happend like 10 mins ago. Dark as hell out. he also said he didn't like the speed at which I came down the off ramp. After he handed me the ticket I asked him...what speed was I going down the off ramp. Nothing but silence...

how much were your windows tinted? in percentage. And what's the most percentage you can get that's not illegal?

And is your tint darker? By how much? If it's not by much then I say contest it. It's dark out. If you ask me, he busted you for "speed," and thought of the tint while he was getting out of the car. I wouldn't say that in court but it's just a hunch.

The silence thing is just leverage in your favor!

That is Jenison cops for you. I know everyone says their local PD is the worst, but Jenison, Michigan is a top contender. Trust me. It's this little yuppified, bigoted, and ultra-conservative subdivision of Grand Rapids, for non-Michiganders. I used to go to church there, and attended a university in an adjacent town. I don't even live there, but have a couple amusing anecdotes.

I once got pulled over because there was some frost on my windows. Nothing that was blocking my view, but they weren't perfectly clear around the edges. I'm serious. He even threatened to give me a ticket for reckless driving.

Back when my wife and I were dating, she got pulled over and ticketed in Jenison for speeding. In a Ford Tempo. Going three miles over the speed limit. At 2 in the morning.

The fact you got pulled over for tint (and a relatively mild tint from the sound of it), really doesn't surprise me. The cops probably thought you were "'slangin 'caine" or "pimpin' hos". :)

Wait a minute. Isn't 5% limo tint? Isn't the % actually the amount of light that gets through the tint? So your windshield is limo tint? Am I wrong here? Or 5% is lighter than 50%? I thought tinting the windshield was illegal everywhere, or are you just talking about a banner?

I was wondering that, too. If his whole windshield is as dark as his rear windows, I gotta know how he sees!!! :D

I think it's the amount of light that can pass through. The lower the number, the darker.

you can have ANY number on your rear windows. its the windows adjcent to the driver that are the big deal. You can only have them 4" down from the top of the window.

and 25% is legal with that. Mine go all the way down. he didn't mention it but my windsheld strip is more then 4" also. More like 5-6.

Oh and this wasnt in Jension. It was in Portland. Jenison has been a handle of mine for sometime now. But Portland is a SUPER small town...where cops have nothing to do.

I hoestly think he just picked out my car thinking...Oh I'm gonna find something on this guy. Either that...or he doesn't know the sound of down shifting ... and thought...man that guys RPMs are high!!!!

First time I've had a cop ask me...anyone else in the car? where were you coming from...where are you going...why did you pull into the gas station....bla bla bla...literally a thousand questions...

For the paranoid, or the frequently pulled-over, mount a video camera in the car, and have it film wherever you go. Should nothing eventfull happen, simply rewind the tape to record the next outing. If you get pulled over, and don't agree with the officer, you now have video evidence to condent in court.

If cops can use video on us, we can use video on us too. The cops camera and ours will tell the same story.
