Anyone recomend a great wax. Someone told me about Turtlewax "Bullet??" wax that is super hard with no abrasives. I want to wax it soon and put something on that will last and won't tearup the clearcoat. He said the stuff even help to prevent stonechips............ (don't know about that) I do know the paint chips easy in the front fascia.

Don't use crappy turtle wax products. Since your car is new, you don't really need a cleaner wax. Just go with a good brand like Mothers or Meguirs. I've also heard good things about Zymol products but I've never used them.

Never get Turtle Wax crap. I got Meguiar's and it's great. It's not the paste one but it's easy to apply and wax off.

In another post I explained that I had tried Turtle Wax Extreme.
This was an attempt to get the best protection I could for the long winters here.
It caused a very odd discoloration on my black WRX. It rubbed out OK , but scared me to death.
Anyway I agree with others concerning turtle wax. I used Meguiar's and it gives a very nice shine.
How well that translates into good protection is another matter.

Zymol is the bomb.
Smells so good you wanna eat it.
You can pick it up at trak auto too, or your local car parts shop. Runs about 9 bucks a bottle.
Make sure the car is clean AND dry, then apply it directly as the directions say. Follow them too the word, and you will be so happy. My car beads up like a pro.

My thoughts exactly. That Zymol Cleaner Wax smells like a tropical paradise. The extra money you spend for Zymol is definitely worth it. Your car will look better than new.

OK...

First of all, the Zymol you get in the stores (which shows an American address on the back) and the Zymol you order from, well, Zymol (which shows a British address on the back) are different. Some people claim that the Zymol at Pep Boys is rebadged Turtle Wax. I wouldn't go that far...but I'm pretty sure they're different.

Bullet wax finished first in a test by Consumer Reports a while ago. I dunno... any wax can be great stuff if you apply it right. Yes, even Turtle Wax.

My favorite wax would have to be 3M show-car wax. It's easily available (Pep Boys, auto parts stores, most detailing places, even body shop supply stores) and very durable. Combined with some decent polish, a good glaze, and a bit of elbow grease, I always come away happy with my car when I'm done.

However, if you're not the type who can spend 3 hours alone with your car and a bunch of chemicals, I would reccomend either the 3M cleaner wax for the "I wax every couple of months" guy, or a polish like Liquid Glass or Fast Finish for the "I wax whenever I feel like it but I want it to be easy." The former is a great all-in-one wax and the latter is a very durable if unspectacular polish that has been used forever. Liquid Glass in particular is a very easy-to-use polish which comes off without a lot of scrubbing. And it does a great job on your wheels!

Of course, it doesn't really matter what you use. It's all in how you do it. I like to put on a thin coat of wax. I like to use foam applicators now... they make the job quicker and easier. Terry cloth is great if you have it... even the "terry cloth" rags you buy cheap at AutoZone or wherever will work. As long as you remember not to be too hard on the paint and to not wax a very hot car or a car sitting out in the sun, well, you'll be fine.

It really depends what you're looking for. But above all enjoy it. If you don't like what you're doing, stop doing it. Detailing shouldn't be a chore.

Have you smelled the Zymol Car Wash? I wanted to taste it so baddly and its all natural.

My dad recommended it to me. I though he was crazy. Then I used it. Yup, I too wanted to give it a taste test. I even wanted to taste the Meguiar's yellow wax #7. It smells like bananas. I had to run to the grocery afterwards because of the cravings. :lol:

I've tried all of the Meguires products as well as most all of the auto parts store off the shelf brands. I've used the real Zymol and am currently using Griots Best of Show wax.
But my favorite is Pinnacle Paste Glaz. Goes on easy. Smells great. Beads great. Lasts a long time.

Harrydog, I used this for quite a while and always thought it was the best. Pinnacle products are great, but after having much success with Zymol HD Cleanse (which I know you use too) I figured I would give their waxes a try. I used the Japon wax and I like it 100X better. I don't know which one you used, but I am convinced...Zymol is best!

BTW- I think that the Pinnacle goes on and comes off easier than the Zymol. It also shines better. The problem I had with Pinnacle, is that it didn't last very long at all. It seemed that I had no wax on my car after a week. IMO- the Zymol would be a better day to day wax, where as the Pinnacle would be a better 'show' wax. And yes...I use a proper car wash that won't strip wax, actually Pinnacle (which smells soooo good, hmmmmmm....coconuts).

My choice is Liquid Glass. I was using something similar to it (Liquid Crystal), but they quit making the stuff, so the Glass it is. I did notice that the better waxes tend to hold up better than the cheaper ones (i.e., turtle wax) and really keeps the finish in good shape. Been using the Crystal stuff since I got the Impreza L in '95 and the finish is still looks excellent.

Zymol that you order is hands down the best high quality wax, however it is difficult to apply, and it doesn't last for a very long time (I guess if you want the best this is what you have to live with). It also costs like 50 bucks for a jar (not the cheap rebadged zymol that you can buy at pep-boys).

I wash my car every weekend. I use the armour all "armour plate" which has now been changed to 'car polish'. It is very easy to apply (spray on, wipe off) and looks really nice. It also doesn't last very long but takes about one tenth as long to put on as zymol. I use it every weekend, and in fact it's the way I dry my car. Then I use a good car polish once every couple of months.

I recently lost the zymol (and now I have spend the $$ to buy some more) because it was in the refrigerator (where your supposed to keep high quality wax) when I moved out of my old apartment, and I forgot to take it.

I think I'm going with the zymol titanium wax next.

Most really nice waxes/glazes don't last very long. Even the great stuff that Meguiar's sells to body shops isn't going to last more than a month.

Liquid Glass is actually a mildly abrasive polish which, if you put on enough coats over a short period of time, acts as a sort of 2nd clearcoat. It does last a while, but at the same time, it's not designed for a blinding shine or anything.

I really want to try Griot's wax one of these days...

My choice is Dura Shine. Some of you must have seen the infomercial on this one. This thing is wonderful, not only does it give you a showroom shine, but it protects the car extremely well. This is good concidering the weak paint we have on our Subarus.
It can be applied in direct sunlight, and the car doesn't even have to be dry! All you do is rub it on, and use the hose to take it off.
I'm surprised nobody else uses it around here. :confused:

Zaino is the best wax on the planet. I just recently got some and did my S2000 this last weekend and the results are amazing. It's clearer than any other wax I've used, and it lasts longer.

Over on the S2000 board, one member posted a "shoot-out" that some magazine did between several brands of expensive wax (including Maguires), and Zaino won. The advantage of Zaino is that (1) it lasts longer, and (2) successive applications are additive, meaning that the shine gets deeper and deeper every time you use it, up to about 5 coats. The first coat of Zaino is as clear and shiny as any other wax on the market.

Hey, I just Zaino'd my car yesterday, and was coming here to post about it. Took about 5 hours of labor (plus 2 hours wait for the wax to dry) to do the full treatment--washed car with Dawn dish soap to remove old wax, clay bar, wash again, Z1 polish lok, Z5 wax, wait then remove the wax.

OMFG it looks amazing, waaay better than from the showroom, and better than when I had it detailed, simply no comparison! The car positively glows, and the surface feels incredibly slick and smooth. I had trouble sleeping just thinking how good it looked, I'm not kidding :eek: ! I stopped at a local rice hangout (which happens to be near the ATM) and everyone was staring at my car--they had been previously looking at this other guys car with chrome dubs. My car was almost shinier than his rims :lol: .

And that's just with one coat of the Z5 (not even the Z2). I can't wait to get home tonight and apply a coat of Z2! Check out the testimonials on the website, but trust me they don't do justice to seeing the product in person.

That was the article that I was referring to. Zaino beat out Zymol and Meguiars both, including the crazy $144 Zymol for the NSX. All of them produced an excellent shine, but the Zaino lasted longer.

I hear you on the 5 hours of labor (of love:) ). I was a little skeptical of how much a wax could improve a silver car (the S2000 silver is darker than the WRX), but I was still amazed after I was done.

Tonight when I get home I start working on my WRB WRX. I think the blue will look absolutely fantastic with the Zaino
