Hey yall,
Sometimes when I'm shifting hard from 1st to 2nd I hear something that sounds like the crunch your feet make when walking on snow. It only happens when I upshift, not downshift. It comes from behind the radio, on the right side of the steering well.
It only happens sometimes, and only on shifts higher than 5000RPM. I must've started hearing this around 10,000 miles. My car is closing in on 19,000 now. I'm wondering if this is actually coming from the transmission and I'm obviously a little worried. If it is, do you think I can get it covered under warranty?
The only instance I can think of when I could have damaged the transmission is when I revved to depress my brake for a launch. When the light turned green I gassed it, only to realize I was still in neutral, and without thinking I slipped it into drive. The engine might've been from 4500 to 5000rpm at that point, maybe even lower.
This happened at one occasion, could it have caused the damage? Can I get this fixed without having to reach into my own pocket?
Thanks ahead of time. The car is an 05 Legacy GT.
edit: this also happens sometimes when I'm making a right hand turn, shifting from first to second.
