Does the UK Prodrive P1 Impreza have the same frame as our RS's?

If we swap over all suspension parts will we essentially have an identically performing car suspension-wise? By looking at a P1, the wheel wells aren't 22B large and look much like ours so they don't use wider tyres, or do they?

the frames are the same. but I beleive non p1 or 22b owners can't but p1 or 22b parts.

Billy, the P1 is based off the standard Impreza body-shell. To create a P1 using P1 suspension components is possible. Contact Mike at www.spdusa.com (http://www.spdusa.com) to obtain the P1 suspension. Of course, you'll also have to get the P1 rims and good tires to more fully complete the setup.

If you are serious about creating a P1 perform-alike, you might want to contact Prodrive to get specs on things like bushings and mounts and end-links and sway bars. These all affect the ride and performance of the suspension.

Might want to contact RalliSpec too.. Since you'll need an EJ20 Turbo to truly make a perform-a-like.

Also I'm planning on doing the same thing basically, except I'm only going for the P1 look, not the suspension, there are better suspensions out there that is why P1 owners get rid of them on scoobynet every now and then.

Good luck as ownly P1 owers can obtain P1 parts (except for springs) at the moment.. hopefully P1 lip replicas will exist in the future, but I think it is un-likely we'll get the 'real deal'

true. www.spdusa.com (http://www.spdusa.com) and www.autocaresubaru.com (http://www.autocaresubaru.com) , can get certain parts (wheels and suspension, those are a given), but I think that is it. body pieces are not available (although, Simon Lines of prodrive, is looking into offering some of the p1 goodies to us check this out, http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/Forum26/HTML/001174.html .).

The P1 setup is non adjustable, and does not use pillowball mounts. It is a good fast road suspension and a more than adequate autox setup too.

the 22B chassis is unique though. Its is welded in a special manner that makes it stiffer, and the ultra-slick flared fenders.

The P1 is based upon the STi 4 door running gear built into the 2 door shell. It shares things like the steering rack and suspension bushes which make the car feel a bit taughter. The standard UK turbo comes with rubber bushes everywhere whilst the STi ones are polyeurathene. One thing the P1 misses out on are the alloy suspension arms the STi get. Roll bars and dampers are from STi but the springs are specials contracted by Prodrive.

Full details can be found on http://www.iwoc.co.uk/p1.html

and details of a particular car on http://www.iwoc.co.uk/myp1.html

Personally I haven't heard of anyone changing their suspension on their P1, on Scoobynet or IWOC list. The brakes yes.

Regards

Steve

Don't forget that the P1 has an aerodynamic package that is balanced. If you do not have the full P1 spoilers, skirts etc, you will not have the same handling as a P1. It's a total package.

Thanks for the help people.

I really am just concerned about the suspension and ride for now as I don't want to violate my drivetrain warranty on my 2000 just yet! http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif

Does anyone know if the P1 has adjustable mounts.... like pillowball top strut mounts or adjustable camber plates? I think that's what they're called or are they non-adjustable units?
