View Full Version : pulled over
jeffg 05-29-2001, 02:01 PM When I first got my motorcycle I got pulled over like 15 times in 1 summer. Never got a ticket. Sometime Cops get bored and they dont have i-club to look at so they pull people over. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif
Subie Gal 05-29-2001, 02:11 PM well it's not your fault!!

scoobagenie 05-29-2001, 03:18 PM last time i got pulled over for speeding, i really was taking my mom to church....
whew boy.
shimstock 05-29-2001, 03:35 PM anybody remeber the Eddie Money song that goes "I was doing 80 when she slammed on the brakes"? well i was doing 80 this morning late for work when i went thru a highway interchange. As i looked up to change lanes i saw a State trooper coming down the ramp adjacent to me and thought OH SSSSH! I didn't however slam on my brakes and luckily he must have been going at a good clip cause as i rolled off the gas to coast to 65 in a 55 he just passed by without a care. He must not even have noticed me going like a bat outta hell thru the 'S' curves under the bridges. The Scooby Gods wer watch'n my back this morning.
Philip 05-29-2001, 03:46 PM Subigal, your such a role model..... http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif
First two years of having my license, I got four tickets (even got the warning notice about if I got 2 more tickets they would take my license away), haven't gotten a single one since. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif I really can't count how many times the V1 has saved my butt, but even before getting it, I had a good 4 years without being pulled over. For me, I just wanting to learn a bit about police work. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/lol.gif

the_gille 05-29-2001, 03:48 PM I have been pulled over twice in the last week. Once for pulling out in front of a cop when my light was red.(But he did tell me I had a nice car.http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif) Once for doing 36 in a 25. The cop had parked around the corner and was gunning people on foot! Lucily I was in a hurry to get to a wedding so he let me go.http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif No tickets though.http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif

eastbaysubaru 05-29-2001, 03:50 PM Hurting...I just got one in my girlfriend's '00 RS and I've got to go to court for it on June 18th. I also jsut finished going to court for a ticket I had in November, so I don't think they'll be taking it easy on me. *****ty. Hope everything goes o.k.
-Brian
Oh, I'll be getting the V1 once I get my Rex. I'm also curious about that Lidar thing that Glenn has.
makua11b 05-29-2001, 04:02 PM I got 2 tickets in 2 weeks in May '98. Total cost in fines was about $350 plus 6 points. I bought a Valentine 1 the day after the second ticket and I haven't been pulled over since. The only modification I've made to my driving is I don't blitz cops anymore. God Bless Mike Valentine.
SubEd 05-29-2001, 06:32 PM Amen, Makua.
I'd never dreamed of spending $400 for a radar detector, but it's the best money I've spent yet. Saved my bacon again tonight - not blazing through town, just doing 45 in a 30 in an industrial park that closes at 5 pm. It gives so much advance warning!
davidz 05-29-2001, 06:58 PM No tickets ever, and I drive pretty damn fast. I have my V1 to thank for both.
LouRawlls 05-29-2001, 08:09 PM Don't get me started....
three tickets the first three months I had my RS and a reckless driving excessive/speed arrest! And afte the arret I tried my hardest to go the speed limit in North carolina, and got a ticket for not wearing seatbelt!!!!
I think the car attracts bad attention, I mean it looks like it is goig fast when its parked....
[This message has been edited by LouRawlls (edited May 29, 2001).]
Rick G 05-29-2001, 08:26 PM The cop says try not to attract attn.to your car.....But officer the car is stock it came like this.
1 ticket since I bought my00 in september.
Just got one dismissed from old car!
Jessie James 05-29-2001, 09:05 PM Amatuers.... you all are a bunch of amatuers... http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/rolleyes.gif
I've been pulled over 80 times in 15 years. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/redface.gif
I've sweet talked my way out of 72 of those stops. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/cool.gif
I've gotten 8 tickets. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/blackeye.gif
I've gone to court and WON 3 times and got the charges dropped (hint: read your vehicle code on radar/airplane tickets.) http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/cool.gif
I've gone to court and gotten traffic school four times. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/cool.gif
I went to court and LOST and got a point on my record only ONCE. (Ran out of traffic school trips!) http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/frown.gif
The majority of those tickets were over ten years ago, mind you, and I've never been stopped in my RS. I dunno why... http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif
Right after I got my RS I blew a unmarked cop car at, oh, 110 mph. He gave chase, I saw him and slowed down. When he got next to me I realized I blew it, so I used my finger to pretend to shoot myself in the head. He laughed, and drove off. Can we say LUCKY? http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif
Best line from a cop: "Do you see a sign that says 'Drive like a maniac?'" yelled at the top of his lungs. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif
Jazz95 05-29-2001, 09:13 PM Well...
pulled over twice in the past five months, red light and illegal u-turn. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/blush.gif
Once last summer for speeding. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/rolleyes.gif
I guess that I'm just prone to getting pulled over. four points, three years until they are gone. Lucky? no. Stupid? maybe. New V1? most def.
Overtime 05-29-2001, 09:22 PM I got pulled for expired registration a few weeks ago. It was on a road heading north away from Raleigh. Not even a highway. He pulled me into a driveway. A gravel one at that.
Frey Bone 05-29-2001, 10:33 PM I MUST have you all beat. I'm only 23 and I've been pulled over 45 times since the winter of '97. I've had 9 tickets. I used to have a 92 protege, and was always able to talk my way out of the ticket (that or they felt sorry for me) But now....
I got my RS this past jan. and the day after I bought it in Boulder, CO I moved back to Bend, OR. I got a ticket in WY on I-80 at like 2am doing 98mph, (I figured this was the time to see how fast I could go) the cop had absoutley NO sence of hummor ($200)(luckley he got me on the de-cell from somewhere north of 120mph)
I got a ticket on the way to Portland in Feb to see my freind AND one an the way back!!!!
both were like $175.
I've had two more since then, at the end of Apr doing 90 in a 75, and I just gogt one last weekend. The one I just got was totally uncalled for!!! I was on my way to a restraunt downtown doing all of 15 looking for a spot, and a cop pulled me over and said he paced me doing 30!!!!!! I was in first gear with my head looking all over for a spot???????
PIGS CAN SUCK MY TAIL PIPE!!!!!!!
My insurance is high, and if I get anymore tickets all I can do is drive to work on one of those provissional permits.
I think the speed limit should be a sliding scale depending on how good of a driver you are determined by some sort of racing tests and stuff so when you get pulled over they (the pigs) will look at my (or who ever's) licence and say Oh sorry Mr. Frey, I see you are a catagory 1 driver 110mph is fine for you, sorry to have bothered you, have a nice day, can I buy you some gas?
......no mommy I don't want to go to school today.....
Jessie James 05-29-2001, 10:37 PM No Frey, you don't have us all beat. read my post a few above yours!
sstyle 05-29-2001, 11:51 PM I am 16 years old:

My story is here:
http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/Forum17/HTML/003344.html
Long story short, I was let off with a warning for 73 in a 55. The cop was apparently a scooby fan

newt3k 05-30-2001, 12:21 AM i guess im just lucky, so far http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif
i've only been driving for 3 years, but i do drive way too fast most of the time.
not a ticket, so far!
its all about driving a dodge neon -LOL-
SubaTubaru 05-30-2001, 01:14 AM hehehe well i cant even remember how many tickets i have gotten that how bad it is i think this is them (had license 2 years, my 1st year i dorve a 1990 ford taurus rust bucket. never got pulled over once! now in my subie, havent changed my driving style and i get this bullcrappa:
Failure to use caution while stopping $175
35 in a 25 + lane violation $100
50 in a 40 $125
50 in a 30 $275
81 in a 65 $300
91 in a 55 $375
100 in a 55+ failiuere to signal $450
Countless (50+) pullovers 0 warnings.
honestly, i only got these in spring and summer... all fall and winter i never get poulled over, come spring its like they pop out of nowhere! they hate me i swear! they are on the look out for young kids in red sporty cars.. errgh!
Oh yea, I beat every one of those tickets in court, except for the 50 in a 40 (my 1st ticket, didnt knwo what to say)
Stinks! they key to not losing your license you ask?!?! CONTINUANCES!! Put the tickets court hearing dates OFF as LONG as POSSIBLE!! then when they say time to pay up, tell them you are leaving country or something and cant pay for 2 months! hehehe I JUST paid for my 1st ticket i got 1.5 years ago, last month! Hehehehe
twice on monday, five times since I've had my RS. Now I do drive a bit fast, but this is krazie. I've only gotten one ticket, but I'm not looking to keep this up. Anyone else had worse luck?

paul42 05-30-2001, 06:08 AM Stay within about 15 mph of the speed limit. In school zones stay within 5 mph of the speed limit. Run with a good radar detector. The cops are out to get you, it is their job.
Never weave in and out of traffic. Watch the flow of the traffic, and watch for headlights flashing. Learn to watch for the signs that somebody is about to do something stupid in front of you. Never underestimate the power of stupidity. Never trust the other guy's turn signals until they are commited.
Leave enough room between you and the car in front of you for your reaction time plus the reaction time of the car behind you. Stopping without hitting the car in front of you isn't enough. You want to stop without the guy behind you hitting you also.
Paranoid drivers and their cars live longer.
100 mph in a 55 zone is never safe, it is a good way to get yourself or somebody else killed.
Porter 05-30-2001, 07:10 AM Ok, this pisses me off.
I was just pulled over in Gastonia, NC for "78 in a 60". There's a long stretch of "work zone" that's been there for 8 years with no work done, essentially it's a fake speed limit zone to drive up the speeding ticket revenue. I of course drive 60-65 all the way through the speed zone, then the work zone ends. Traffic speeds up, and I stay with traffic. I wasn't passing anybody, just putting along in the middle lane. I get passed by a minivan and then I see blue lights in my rearview.
Turns out Gaston county has lowered the speed limit on the interstate to 60 all the way across the county!!! They've decided that highway speed in their county is lower than anywhere else along I-85, just because they say so.
Anyway, a very rude officer gives me a ticket for 78 in a 60 (reckless endangerment) after I politely tell him, "I'm sorry officer, I had no idea I was speeding. I didn't realize the lower limit continued after the work zone. It wasn't my intention to speed, and it certainly wasn't my intention to endanger anyone."
He asks me to step out of the car, asks me if I have any weapons in the vehicle, then makes me sit in the squad car while he writes me a ticket. I ask him if there's any chance I could get a warning since I was barely following the flow of traffic. He says, "That's not our policy."
Turns out anything over 15 over the speed limit is now a CRIMINAL MISDEMEANOR in North Carolina, and if found in court to have been exceeding the speed limit by that amount, I will AUTOMATICALLY LOSE MY LICENSE, on the first offense!!! No mail in allowed, it's a mandatory court appearance, and the punishment can now include JAIL TIME for 15 over the limit!! I am so pissed off!
I am getting a lawyer, I have to fight this. I don't see how they could "automatically" rescind an out of state license anyway.
Anyway, a warning to anybody living in or traveling through NC... Gastonia sucks, and NC's new traffic laws are a page out of the freaking inquisition. NC is now worse than Virginia by far!

pottsie350 05-30-2001, 08:54 AM And the safety nazis slowly take over our lives.
remarcable 05-30-2001, 10:54 AM YIKES PORTER!
Glad I didn't get caught doing 90 up until I hit the photo radars at rock hill/charlotte. Man those things are annoying. Every 1/4 mile. BL:EEEEP BEEP BEEP BEEPE BEEP.... beep.
I just turned off my detector and stuck the cruise on 60.
I hope SC doesn't do anything that drastic in terms of fines.
I got clocked doing 80 or so in a 55 in my 87 rustbucketfuket Sable Wagon on Highway 1 here in Aiken going out to work one morning.
It's a 4 lane highway! Man that sucked. 6 points off license, like a $400 fine. I got it reduced to 2 points and $200 though. No tickets in the subie, although by all means I should have had several. Guess I am just lucky.
iceweazel 05-30-2001, 10:57 AM Ouch, SubyGirl. Are your tickets as expensive as they are here? $100.us a pop.
if you're lucky.
Cops near where I USED to live, used to follow me around when I got on my motorcycles. Ticked me off to no end.
I finally had the company lawyer call the
local police and threaten a lawsuit. I'd
started to collect the car #s and the date.
Scared the CRAP outa the cops, as I worked
for CompuServe back then. H&R Block made
the call. I moved later anyway.
Never screw with Angry Tax Lawyers >http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif
Hadn't had a ticket in a while, (well since that incident in 99 on the way to STPR down that hill in the new A4 at over 100 *cough*)
Got one driving the Rex home from the dealer in MN after the rally. 4am no one on the damn road and he could tell I didn't have plates he claims (MN gives you a 4" square temp tag to be mounted in the rear window)
So after a 15 min check of the temp
on a sunday morning, he ticketed me for
speed. *&^%$$#!!
ah well. They ARE too damn fun. I'd love to
see what you could do with think 8:1 headgaskets and a 2.5rs. WHOA!!!
Low-end Torque and mucho-bhp. Fuel would
be.. interesting though.
well 3 days till STPR and I'm driving the
Rex out there. Hope I don't get one
this time. Gotta go get my silly-suit
from the cleaner today. EVERYONE in
a "hotrod" here keeps trying to get
me to street-race em. I'm starting to
weaken. The results can't be good
if I give in. From little Crx's to
the doctor down my street with his
weekend Porsche buddies.
Ed
sn0w_cr4sh 05-30-2001, 12:30 PM who would have thought you could go to
jail for speeding?
came over the top of a large hill and
ALL of the lights on the radar detector
went off at once. there wasn't another
car on the road for miles around. the
bar lights were on as i passed him sitting
at the bottom of the hill.
spent 1 day in jail (holding cell) and
36 months of probation (plea bargin).
reckless endangerment: 134 in a 55...ouch
Frey Bone 05-30-2001, 12:48 PM PORTER, that totally SUCKS, I can't belive that, actually I can that totally sounds like some kind of crap they would pull.
I hope you can beat it, who far do you have to drive to appear?
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!
I hope you beat those dirty dirty pigs intent on singleing us out just because we dont drive mini-vans. Untill all cops pull people over in a unbiased fashion, the roads will never be free.
I dont mind getting pulled over as long as the frekin' rusted out station wagon who just passed me gets a ticket too!!!!! Our cars can handel higher speeds, out suspention is better, our brakes are better, and I'm guessing in general we are more skilled drivers (ie quicker reaction times etc...)
SOMETHING MUST BE DONE.........
GODS OF POLITICS HEAR MY CRY.........
LET MY PEOPLE GO!!!!!!!!!!
yeah, I guess the point of my post was to see if others have gotten pulled over in there rs. The answer is a resounding yes. I for one, and done w/ it. I've decided 5-10 has got to be the the max for me. Any more tickets and I can only immagine what my insurance will be like. I said I've gotten pulled over 5 time in 7 monthes. 3 were for speeding, 11 over, 12 over, and 25 over. I got the ticket for the 25 (what do you expect). The other 2 times were for nothing offenses... missing front plate, louder than stock exhaust, and 'excessive axcelleration'.
BLork... moral of the story, drive safe, or someone will stop you to tell you to http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif.

cammy712 05-30-2001, 07:14 PM You think thats bad I got pulled over Friday going 21 over, then saturday i crushed a deer in the Impreza. Its out for a while
rhdude 05-30-2001, 08:26 PM yeah being pulled over for acceleration is stupid, doing 0-60 as fast as you can should'nt be a crime. i had a friend that got busted for doing 28 in a 25. $50 ticket. we laughed at him and his bad luck. geuss the cop missed his morning doughnut, err dozen doughnuts. yeah i have also had a friend get ticketed for a "louder than stock" exhaust. but he challenged it and won. i am getting my stromung exahust and weapon R intake soon, i better not get pulled over for that!
Sooberman 05-30-2001, 09:26 PM Hey all you speedy guys...guess what? I'm still a virgin! Yup, never been even pulled over in 12+ years of driving all through New York (Brooklyn, New York City, Queens, and Upstate). All of you are speed sluts!
My secret? Be a good driver:
Be aware of everything around you.
Go with traffic.
Try not to go more than 9mph over the speed limit most of the time.
If you're going to speed or go nuts, don't do it too often and never through sections that look like traps or are unfamiliar.
Cross your fingers and your legs!
Hope the officer will be gentle on me on my first time! http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/tongue.gif
BTW I'm not one of those granny drivers either, I've done my share of streetfighting.
FLUBYUx2 05-31-2001, 01:21 AM 5 moving violations in the past year (rolling year)
all have been convictions (no contest, or mailed in the check)
about 3 more tickets MORE than 1 year ago, not on DMV record.
1st- 37 in the 25, in my Loud, mean, 79 trans am
2nd- 64 in 45, in big blue winnebago conversion van...
3rd- failing to lower hi beams in-town when flashed by officer...what, we were goin thru the bump-and-dip part of the intersection, i thot his beams just pointed up...dint thik he was flashing me.
4th-Trans Am again, 'reckless opp w/o speed' pulled over by paddy wagon, TRIED to keep up w/ me thru down town traffic, only caught up to me at stop light.
*failing to use turnsignal when changing lanes
*faling to come to complete stop at stop light
*same as above, only stop SIGN
*failing to turn left from the LEFT turn lane
he had no radar tho, so couldnt tell i was only doing 34 in 25.
asked me if my exhaust was legal, its not, i said it IS. he got down on hands and knees to check her out, cop #2 is 50 feet away, admiring my TA.
5th-failing to stay on marked pathways in the city park, in my 78 K5 blazer..get this:
i got it STUCK in the RIVER, IN the MIDDLE of a city. for all you Ohioans, it was PERRYSBURG, in the maumee river. it was stuck in mud, water came up about 4 feet.
6th-failing to drive at night w/ headlights, my 88 mazda RX7, i just pulled out of a driveway when he passed me, before i flipped my headlites on.
7th-squeal and peel, RX7, in Sandusky ohio, right in town.
8th-speeding, Scooby, 67 in 50. cop came over hill, couldnt make him out at distance. as soon as i saw him, i braked, then, radar detector went nuts, his lights came on, and, he pointed to the shoulder as i PASSED HIM.
*5th moving in a year, 3rd deg, misdemeanor, 30 days in jail, $1500 fine. told me to show up later w/ lawyer.
went back w/o a lawyer, busted down max penaltiy was 15 days in jail, $500 penalty, liscense suspension.
pleaded no contest, and LAID THE SMACK DOWN! i told him, using proper grammar, Big words, my current situation:
-full time employee at hotel 17 miles from home
-part time college student at univ of toledo
-plan to attend college IN toledo full time this fall
-plan to have part time job in addition to college this fall
-took the initiative to 'enroll in a defensive driving course, which i then completed and passed'
he asked to see my Certificate, i showed him, the sentance was 1 yr inactive probation, kept my liscense, 6 points, roughly $340 fine. 15 day suspended jail time.
...damn im good. who needs a $500/hour lawyer?!
i am currently a BIG fan of cruise control, coasting past law enforcment officers (hiding my loud exhaust), 'driving' 1/4 mile to 1/2 mile ahead of my car, following at safe distance, turnsignals, light acceleration in presence of police, and HIGH top speeds only on divided hiways where the on ramps are few and far between, and i can see traffic ahead of me at the crest of the hill.
today, on the way back from the race track, my friend an i, hit this divided section of hiway, (route 2 as it crosses the sandusky bay) and ran up to top end. i got the scooby to 122, about 5600 rpm, still a little juice left. he got the jump on me in his Straight piped MR2, but i pulled up on him like he was grandma, and passed him like he was a farm tractor. it was fun, got my blood goin.
anywho, please drive carefully people, if ur gonna drive like an ass, (like me) pick a wide open road that ur familiar w/ and know there wont be any cops. when in town, ALways ALWAYS look around, look for the light bars on the roof's of cars, look for cop cars parked at gas stations, donut shops, parkin lots, corners, stop signs, and stop lights. u dont wanna do what i did
Not Ticketed- 79 trans am, 2:30 am. ROASTED my tires at a stop light w/ the cop next to me in the left turn lane. he pulled me over, i was honest: 'its just really late officer and i didnt see anyone around, so i figured i wouldnt hurt anyoe if i just got on her a little bit'... he let me off, its a story in itself, ill tell ya sometime if ur interested. he was a good guy.
'speed kills, but itll get you there faster!'

BEST LINE FROM A COP:
"HEY! you think its COOL to peel out in front of a cop! http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/mad.gif"
SCRAPPYDO 05-31-2001, 01:23 AM Even though I just had a very unpleasant experience with a officer of the law, (read BS exhaust ticket) I will admit 99% of the time when I get pulled over, its my fault.
I got news for people who speed 15-20 MPH over the limit day in and day out....
TOO FREAKING BAD. YOU DESERVE A TICKET. Dont whine about it, or make excuses, or blame the system, or the cops. You were the moron going 20 over the limit. I mean what do you expect.
If I got pulled over and recieved a ticket for speeding 5 times in a year, I sure as hell would not be proud of it. Maybe an IQ test is in order.
Its pretty simple.
You shoot somebody - you go to jail
You eat to much - you get fat
You go 20 over the limit - you get a ticket
If you accept the consequences of your actions, you just take your tickets and move on with life with a smile on your face.
If you think the cop is being a prick because he pulled you over for doing 45 in a 35, then you are a tad bit diluted. Its his job to pull over speeders, you were speeding, whats the problem.
Just another note. If you have 3 other speeding tickets on your record, then I would imagine that it would be far less likely for you to get off on speeding ticket number 4. Just a thought.
So, when/if I get another speeding ticket, then I will pay the fine and go to traffic school. Nobody made me speed. Nobody was in the car with a gun to my head making me speed. My actions, my fault, my problem.
SCRAPPYDO (soon to be flamed into ashes! haha)
Stephen
OsakaGangsta 05-31-2001, 01:27 AM I got pulled over for doing 85 in a 55 about a month ago. I was in in the far right lane and saw the trooper as I came around a curve blasting by traffic so I slammed on my brakes but he got me. Makes me feel like such an ass for driving so aggressive and getting caught...like people are laughing at me. So I pulled over and the first thing he said was, "Is this one of those new WRX's? Those ones with like 230hp? I see the commercials all the time..." I told him it wasn't but he went on and on about what great cars these are, so I was like "whew, I think I caught a break here..." Then he comes back with the $175 ticket. D'oh!
I got a ticket on friday. sixty two in a forty five. I had a big white Excursion riding up my a$$, and was going the same speed as the rest of traffic. I know, I know, likely story...
kpratte 05-31-2001, 06:08 AM So Aaron, I guess you want to borrow my book on how to speed?? It's written by a an ex State Trooper of all people. Gives you a better idea of what they are thinking and how to avoid tickets. I refer to the book as "how to speed effectively."
- Ken
Conduit 05-31-2001, 03:48 PM Well I would like to borrow that book. I've only had a few stops, but they have all been incredibly irritating:
1. 78 in a 65. He pulled an entire pack of seven cars over. I was one. That kinda sucked http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/tongue.gif
2. 100 in a 70. I was driving a ton of people home from a concert. It was 5am, I was the designated driver, and it was an essentially empty highway (1 car in ten minutes, florida turnpike if you know it). Cop was very cool, even invited me to stand out of the way of his lights. Lowered it to an 80 in a 70.
3. DUI, pending. This happened a week after I got my WRX, actually. A cop visually estimated my speed at 60 in a 45, and followed me for about 1/8th mile before pulling me over after a U-turn. I had the distinct displeasure of being pulled over by one of florida's good ole boy nitwits. After being pulled over, I got out, presented my license and asked why he had pulled me over. He told me about the speed, looked me up and down and then proceeded to make me remove my jewelry and empty my pockets. He never ran my license. Then he asked me about every drug you could imagine, and said he suspected I had been drinking. At this point, he radios _his brother_ to come administer a roadside sobriety test. I passed, but they exercised their option to take me to jail anyway for a breath test. Luckily, I have a witness, and a full tape of the lengthy (and absurd) stop. Did I mention that I'm a largish bouncer type with a black mohawk? I don't think he even understood most of the words I used. Needless to say, this is going to court. I hope to transcribe the tape, it's really silly, and it's a good example of what kind of cop you don't want to run into if you look wierd http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif. Oh, and my BA? .08 I'm going to laugh when he tries to justify the stop, since my driving on the tape is driving school perfect.
Keep those speeds down, and buy a V1. DON'T drink within an hour of leaving a club. That's when I drank all three of my drinks, and if they breathalize you far later on, you're screwed. That also being said, here is my high-priced DUI attorney's advice (read: fewer WRX mods =( ):
Never, ever take a breath test or roadside test. Period. Politely decline, citing an injured foot or some such, and ask the officer if you can leave. He has to make a judgement call, and cannot detain you legally without a reason once you have asked to leave. Never lean on your car. This is all they need. I never did, and combined with the way I stood and spoke, seriously helps me.
take care all,
rob
pottsie350 05-31-2001, 05:32 PM I haven't had a ticket in over 12 years. This after nealy loosing my license because of the large number of tickets I've had.
I've learned to be alert. Pay attention to every vehicle you see. I don't use a radar detector, though I have been tempted. If you pay close attention it is possible to see the cops before they see you. Only speed where you can see. Speeding over a rise in a hill or around a turn that you cannot see through is not safe to start with. Learn where to speed, and only speed when you are sure no one is watching, when no one can sneak up on you, and when you sneak up on no one.
Watch.. I'll get a freaking ticket tomorrow http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif
Also I don't agree with the idea that if you speed you deserve a ticket. If you endanger somebody elses life, then you deserve a ticket. Speeding does not necessarily endanger anybody. I know there's not a lot we can do about the death grip the safety nazis have on the legal system, but I'm not willing to roll over and play dead or have my belly scratched either.

'76 Honda CVCC
Pulled over = 0
Tickets = 0
Summary = No cop would embarass himself enough to pull this rust bucket over.
'86 Honda Civic
Pulled over = 30 times
Tickets = 18
License Revoked = 2 (nullified thanks to traffic school)
Summary: Most tickets from speeding between college and home. One for being an Untied Load (i.e., hanging out the window). One running a stop sign (officer: Son, you didn't even slow down). One illegal turn. Don't get me started on campus parking tickets (over 40, and towed twice).
'93 Mazda 626
Pulled over = 6 times
Tickets = 0
Summary: Scariest one when pulled over leaving a bar and given full boat DUI test. Passed. Phew.
'96 Jetta GLX
Pulled over = 14 times
Tickets = 8
Summary: All speeding. And again, don't get me started on company parking tickets - probably approaching triple digits.
Total: 50 times pulled over (nice and even, need to get 51, eh?)
Tickets: 26 (I'm down to 1/year past decade)
