I bought a used 2002 wrx that already had the lamco steering column boost gauge installed and i noticed the needle moves very sluggishly.

I was under the impression that boost gauge needles were supposed to move quickly so you could accurately read the amount of boost.

Has anybody found a way to speed up the needle or is this thing junk (which would be unfortunate because there are holes in my steering column now)

Well, I am not sure how sluggish it is moving for you. But I can tell you there are reasons why the Lamco gauge is a much cheaper boost gauge than some others (Defi, Nexus, etc.). You basically get what you pay for. But regardless of it's sluggishness, the Lamco is better than not having any boost gauge IMO.

there is a restrictor by the throttle body. this will make it move faster but you will get a tapping noise. i believe the tapping noise is from the exhaust set up causing 2 pulses at the turbo instead of 4.
