View Full Version : Need HID diagnosis help, relay?

I have an issue with my 05 STi. I purchased the JDM fogs and they work great. When I installed them I put the OEM relay in as per the directions.

I decided to upgrade to HID H3's and everything went fine with the install. I have used them for several months now and am very happy.

The problem is that sometimes the left or the right will shut itself off, randomly. And sometimes on start up one won't ignite one.

I read that they should be grounded to Chassis, so I pig-tailed an extra ground off the stock wiring and grounded them to chassis with no change in performance.

I read that adding a relay may help, but I'm not sure what kind of relay and where/how to install one for each light. I truely feel that I have a relay issue where it isn't capable of handling the current draw.

Any suggestions?

BTW, the stock HID headlights have not been affected in any way, they work flawlessly.

1) You are blinding people with HIDs in those fogs.
2) Fogs/ HIDs are worse for visibilty than fogs with proper bulbs.
3) Defintly sounds like an insufficinet current issue to me. Install some separate relays and see what happens.

wow, thanks for your insight tard.

1) No I'm not. You aren't even aware of the new H3 bulb designed for H3 fogs.
2) Same as 1, if you paid attention to the HID market you would actually know something about the new bulbs and how they work better than regular bulbs in this particular H3 application. Sure the old ones did, but before you go spout off your "wisdom" get with the program.
3) I already state that. READ.

Hmm, I was going to send you my wiring diagram for a relay setup, but after that response, you can get it somewhere else.

Thanks anyway, I just figured it out on my own. We'll see if the relays remedy the issue long term.
