View Full Version : 2.5rs to ej20 swap, what times did you trap?
erice1984 06-01-2005, 10:34 PM I was curious as I have a swap in the making, need to rebuild the engine first, but I was just wondering what I could possibly see in the 1/4 mile time range. It is a completely factory EJ20 out of a 2002 wrx, only an intake and cat-back will be installed, other than that it will run completely factory settings. It is going in a 2000 Impreza 2.5RS with a 5MT
Any ideas?
Thanks
-Eric
linsavy 06-02-2005, 01:34 PM About 2 tenths quicker that a WRX with similar mods. Low 14s.. depends.
MyFirstDeuce 06-02-2005, 09:00 PM w/ a cat back I imagine high 13's. WRX Tranny right?
erice1984 06-03-2005, 02:05 PM rs trans
Teh Legacy 06-03-2005, 02:35 PM Probably a little quicker with the RS transmission, since it has better gearing.
RS_to_WRX_swap 06-03-2005, 11:39 PM About 2 tenths quicker that a WRX with similar mods. Low 14s.. depends.
The gearing and weight of the RS will take off a lot more the 2 tenths.
subbyspeed 06-04-2005, 02:18 PM well whats the general rule of thumb? For every 100 pounds taken out, supposedly you gain a tenth in the 1/4. So thats about 4 tenths for the RS.
Then factor in gear ratios, tires, blah blah.. i'm sure it could be capable of 13's.
Redwinger 06-04-2005, 03:53 PM its just a rumor, but i heard that a stock ej20 in a L sedan goes about as quick as a stock STI
91L-T 06-05-2005, 08:35 PM a friend of mine has an rs with wrx eng & trans, flashed ecu and uppipe, 13.5sec 1/4mile

Too bad he went with WRX gearing, but not a bad time.

The stock 240hp JDM ej20g's are slower than the USDM STI after 60mph. The 240hp version and up, can(depends on driver) beat the STI's in 0-60 times but after that, it depends on what year and engine you get. Sorry if this is kind of confusing, but I dont know how to explain it any better.

erice1984 06-06-2005, 01:27 AM possibly because of the AVCS
JDM_Scobaru 06-06-2005, 11:54 AM possibly because of the AVCSWell the WRX swapped GC's are faster to 60 for sure(stock for stock) becasue of gearing and they are so freakin light with all that power! I am not sure how the 260, and the 280 would do after that though.
A plain jane RS with a WRX swap weighs about 2800 lbs. A stock WRX sedan is about 3050 lbs from the scales I've been on. My guess is high 13s.
erice1984 06-06-2005, 12:53 PM i got a jun flywheel with an act street strip clutch, and a few lighter parts on the car that arent supposed to be street legal.. i just cant tail anyone, and make sure my brakes work really really well.

Sounds right to me, also depends on good/bad driver.
Homemade WRX 06-06-2005, 11:14 PM http://www.mattleach.com/impreza/eby.wmv
this is an L with a usdm wrx engine MBC, uppipe and downpipe...so if stock gearing is 4.11:1 also

NICE! Is that you?
That was my old car. Had the longer gearing with the WRX trans in it too.
Without the MBC, just uppipe, downpipe and filter it ran 13.296 at 100.21 mph. It was a little lighter than an RS swap would be though, 2690 lbs.
linsavy 06-07-2005, 09:46 AM A stock RS weighs 2800 lbs, the turbo motor will add at least 50lbs (turbo, I/C, piping) so the weight diff is only about 200lbs or less or there is your 2-3 tenths. If you start adding mods to the WRX motor then you make more power and get lower times. An L weighs a little less depending on year so they should be a little quicker with all other things the same.
Since the poster will be using an RS trans and some exhaust mods he could see high 13s, depends on driving, how hard he wishes to launch and track conditions, YMMV.
RaDZio 06-07-2005, 01:45 PM So how about USDM STI motor and 6-speed?(no other mods, except the interior is gutted)
What times will I ran?
erice1984 06-07-2005, 01:56 PM i imagine somewhere in the 12's
STi-Spec C 06-13-2005, 03:32 PM i never knew an RS with a WRX engine swap run 13's
Spilner 06-14-2005, 09:21 AM ok I've been searching for awhile I would be looking to do a wrx in a 96L what exactly do I need? motor/trany/ecu... Also I was told that I could keep L's tranny if I wanted that doesn't seem quite right to me though it doesn't seem like it could stand the abuse

Weighed a buddy's '98 swap yesterday... came in at 2660 w/out driver. Not too bad, if I say so myself!

Hit the FAQ man. Read it. Then read a gain. Then print it out, take it home, and study it. From what I heard, the L tranny will hold up as well as an RS one will.

subbyspeed 06-14-2005, 10:54 PM After floggin my car more and more lately.. That exedy clutch is real nice.. It holds real good, but doesn't give you that jolt that some aftermarket clutches give you with heavier sprung pressure plates..
yeah tranny friendly clutch! :p
erice1984 06-15-2005, 02:01 AM what is this excedy clutch you speak of because i need a new one, my act is worn out.
boomn29 06-16-2005, 04:51 PM its just a rumor, but i heard that a stock ej20 in a L sedan goes about as quick as a stock STI
Yep. Have a guy with this locally. He was running on the interstate, and another friend with a close to stock STi was behind him - the STi could NOT pull on him!!!!!!

Just the exedy stage 1. Nothing spectacular, but is rated to hold 300 or so.. Which is plenty for me. And not as much clamping force like the ACT. I don't want to break my tranny. yet. :) I got mine for 330 shipped. so its quite a bit cheaper than the ACT's.
Ralph Wiggim 06-16-2005, 07:17 PM I have a 00' RS with a wrx engine that I just finished up putting together. Its going for the ecutek and a road tune on Tuesday, so I'll run it that Friday and let you guys know what it does. Iam running the stock rs trans, vf22, sti injectors, frontmount, intake, inlet hose, up pipe, down pipe, 3'' cat back, one step colder plugs, light weight flywheel, spec clutch, and ecutek. Iam going to run about 20 lbs of boost and ofcourse order the RA gear set, but I hope this will be a fun and fast setup because it sure sounds it. And I don't have a clue what this thing is gonna run. Chris
erice1984 06-17-2005, 02:04 AM high 12's.. that'd be my guess.. atleast in the 12s
linden 06-17-2005, 05:31 AM am in the process of building a 250T legacy with either a EJ20 from early 94-95 WRX or one from a later model forester. These both come with the respective manuals and I am unsure which one to fit. I am planning to run this with a water to air intercooler to maintain the sleeper image of my car. If anyone has an opinion on one of these motors I would like to her it.
I will endevor to find which version EJ20 they are.
