I just found a good looking EJ20 version 3 or 4, dont know. But what if any problems would i encounter if installing this motor? I know the Leg is OBD II, and the EJ20 OBD I, but what is the difference and does it matter??

Thanks for the input all,

do you have to have an OBD-II inspectin where you live?...if so that makes a big difference. The ver 3/4 ecu won't be able to be scanned and there fore you won't pass inspection...the swap would be basically like any of the other impreza/legacy swaps.

the version 3/4 is the same diagnostics "style" (years, second japanese diagnostics, like our obdII, but not compatible) as our obdII, but it will by no means pass an obdII plug in test.

if its all swapped, the only thing that would matter would be the emissions, if you have it up there.

From personal experience, I'd go find a USDM EJ20 motor to swap in. Easier to source parts (both aftermarket and OEM) and less of a headache.
