I have heard both are good and are almost equal in performance.....but I want to hear more. Who has which filter and have you compared the two? Which one makes more power, breathes better?

I have heard the ITG is actually better when it is dirty.

Thoughts please.

I have used both on many cars and I think the ITG is much better. I even just replaced my K&N with an ITG on my WRX. The ITG is better for performance and as it gets dirty. I guess I wasted $44 on the K&N.

Here is a very recent link on the turbo forum:
http://www.i-club.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=77777

Also do a search on this site and the turbo site, much more information is available.

I have used both.

I like the ITG more because of the filter area on the ITG is much much larger. The K&N will flow a little better just after it is cleaned. But the ITG is much better when they get a little dirty.

Buy either but plan on cleaning the K&N offen if you want the most out of it.

Also the ITG fits the WRX filter box better. I have a ITG for my WRX.

How often do you clean your K&N? Does the ITG ever need cleaning?

They say it's good for 100,000 miles and does not need cleaning since it's loaded up with so much oil....
mmmmm, oil sweet oil

I have a K&N and I like it. I have #2075 and it fits good (2032-2 also fits good), but it is said that neither of them are a "perfect fit." But I hear the ITG filter fits perfectly. I don't feel like replacing my aftermarket filter with another one, but looking back I would have gone with the ITG just for the fitment issues.

How well does the ITG fit comparing to the K&N?

are there any brick and mortar stores that sell ITG? I'll probably end up going with a K&N if there aren't any. :(

so exactly what "type" of ITG filter...there's various styles on their site...Or does it really not matter?

BradWRX

It really does not matter, all their products are excellent. ITG has a panel filter that fits the stock airbox perfectly or if you want they make cylindrical filters like the I&N cone filter.

We're talking about the ITG PANEL FILTER right?

Is that what this debate is about?
The ITG Panel Filter goes for about $52.00.

I also have a spare K&N slightly used, maybe I should sell it too. The stock filter is a good enough backup, just in case.

Good deal, you saved $3. I have called some vendors as well and there never is an answer for some. Maybe sometimes even get a call back when you leave a msg. I think some of these co. are part timers? Or maybe there off racing? Fishin, whatever!

ITG emailed this info today.

These are available from stock and may be purchased through Eurosport Accessories in Anaheim CA USA. Their telephone number is 714 630 1555 or online at www.eurosportacc.com . These guys keep a large stock of this particular product and would be able to supply you by return.

Got my ITG from Rally Performance today. Popped it in quick and had to go to work. I could definitely hear the turbo spool up a lot better. Not sure about performance yet...haven't had a chance to drive it much since the install.

You got yours? Crikey, I've been on backorder with Ken (rallyperformance.com) for a couple of weeks now, and he swears there's one on the way to me...can't wait.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned Amsoil filters yet. In my personal testing on my NA legacy the amsoil does a better job of keeping crap out of the engine. It also has that sweet looking steel mesh on the engine side of the filter.... I know for sure nothing is going to be coming through that.

Pebbles, for example.

how much horsepower does the itg give versus the k&n?

gtguy
08-19-2001, 11:37 PM
The hp gains are minimal, from all that I know. But better breathing is never a bad thing. I put mine in today, and after an ECU reset, I like my car even more. Installation is a snap, too.

I don't know about horsepower gains. I do know that I pulled on a Volvo 850R wagon, three car lengths by third gear, lengthening gap in fourth. He was trying pretty hard, too. Pretty funny, because he was being a total prick in traffic. He deserved a spanking. Note: this was on the highway, (Rte. 41) pulling away from a stoplight. At my normal cruising speed, I stopped, and he went blowing past. More power to him.

My friend, in a stock WRX sedan, was following me, and we pulled away from the toll booth at the same time, and I able to pull on him pretty well. I also have a Cobb cat-back, and a heavy right foot. Cool thing was, I got great gas mileage, what probably would have been upwards of 340 miles from a tank, with redline behaviour, and all sorts of heinousness.

Have been using both ITG and K&N filters in turbo Saabs for years, overall I prefer ITG. I have a K&N in my WRX right now, $29 at my local Autozone. They are both excellent filters but you pay a price for the slightly better flow of the K&N as is does not seem to filter as well as the ITG oiled foam design. If you already have a K&N don't bother changing to ITG, just remember to clean and re-oil it once a year.
