I just wanted to say thanks to John (Rain) and Sam for helping out last night. We got a hell of a lot accomplished in very short time. So what if it doesn't run right. I am sure I can have the kinks out by this weekend. Just for the record, starting an install at 7PM on Monday night when you need to drive the car the next day; it's a bad idea!

Thanks again guys,

Chad

Okay, I'll bite. What did you install on the car?

Wes got it! We did the intercooler, O2 sensor, turbo, injectors, gaskets, and reinstalled the alcohol for the new intercooler. It was a busy night to be sure but its done. Now I need to make sure its running right!

Can anyone tell me what their wideband O2 reads, do you have any logs? Last night mine looked a bit lean so I was concerned perhaps I was optimistic with my injector scale set to 740..??

at WOT the readings should be between 11.5:1-10.5:1 ideally. and 13.5:1-15:1 at idle. but it really depends, every car is different. but that is the range you should be in. it may be a little rich but its better to be rich than too lean.

There is a lot of information on tuning the UTEC at the wrxhackers website.

Also, you may want to look at Mick the Gringe tuning guide.

I went looking for some HP/TQ curves of some of the cars. Some of them display the AFR's under the curves. For example see the attached post.

These graphs are for the vishnu stages. You'll need to decide on their suitability for use for the UTEC stages.

That may give some ideas of some ranges to look for.

Chad, it was no problem, actually it was a nice learning experience for me.

rich is safe, lean is fast

I know about the wide open settings from reading many different tuning guides. These are normally, 10.5 to 1 and as lean as 12.5 to 1 with water or alcohol injection.

In the past I monitored my AFR with the stock sensor and when you started the engine it would slowly climb from 13 to 1 to around 14.7 to 1 at idle and at wide open pegged out at 11.1 to 1. Before that it hovered around 14-12 or somewhere there about. Last night when we turned the car on for the first time I was seeing 18-15 to 1 at first. Now this might just be because I did not calibrate my sensor first, or perhaps the stock and the aftermarket are in different places or perhaps because I have an air leak. Tonight I will try both the stock and the aftermarket O2s at the same time to see if they are similar or there is a difference. I just did not want to run the car at idle at a ratio of 17-1 for fear of damage. Do you guys think that 17-1 is OK at idle? I do not have a fuel leak or a vacuum leak that I could detect but I did not have the car running more than about 30 seconds.

Everything that I have read indicates a 740cc for stock modded injectors but I have seen that number as high as 840. Mick the Ginge says to try at 700 and work up. If I am still having the "lean" issue at idle I will back off the injector scaling a bit to see how that affects my idle. Thanks for any info or tips guys,

Chad

17-1 is too lean at idle...

I upped the fuel at idle last night and its purring right along at 14.1 to 15 which is very close to stolich for the car. However now I have an uppipe leak! Damn the luck. This weekend will require another surgery. Then I can start tuning.

Got the Pocket PC to work last night as well. Could be the smallest screen ever but hey, it is portable.
