I got my WRX tinted 20% all around minus the front windshield. I got pulled over the FIRST day I got it, and now I have to take it off. It looked so good. Just wanted to vent my anger. thanks.

Were you in MI? I though in michigan you could have any percent tint on the back and sides.

same here, I am waiting until a few days before it's due to take it off. Just keep the ticket in your car they can't give a second ticket. I will put it back on in a few weeks or so.

Just pay the fine and go on your way. Its cheaper than paying to have them put on again.

It's like $30 here in New York, and half the time the cops tell you to pay the fine and leave the tints and hope for the best.

Thats my .02

I will check to see if we have that option out here in CA cuz I would pay the $30 right away. But from what I know, I have to take it off, get it signed off, then pay $5 or $10 DMV fee.

In MI, you can have whatever you like on the back windows but the law says you can only have 4" from the top tinted on the driver/passenger windows.

Here in OREGON, the law says 35% all around, but tint is pretty rare up here still. Infact, most of the cars I see have darker than the 35% (Either that, or its my imagination and all the cars I see with tint seem to LOOK darker than mine) :D

I've heard Oregon is strict (figures)...

anyhow, I'm content with 35%... maybe in the future I would go darker, but overall its a nice tradeoff with being able to see out the back at night...

I got a ticket for tint in cali a few months ago. basically the ca law says that you cannot have any tint on the front side windows except for the slight ammount of tinting built into the glass. anything else is illegal and the ticket (in montery co) was $70. there was no signature or anything that i had to get, they just told me that i had to pay the money and take it off. of course now i am on my way to fla so i put the tint back on. :-)

I talked to my tint shop before I had it done...they said lifetime warranty blah blah blah, and if you get pulled over all they require is the front two (driver and pass) windows to be redone. Not the whole car! This is in Colorado though, and it's what the tint shop told me, not necessarily the law. Should only be 20 bucks or so. Doing these two windows should also keep the car dark, and if it's good tint, should look too much different. Worth a call to the shop!

That blows. My condolences. MI law is stupid. I'd pay the ticket & keep the tint.

I have 35% on the doors, and 20% on the hatch and rear quarters (I have a wagon). NO night vision impairment. No hassle from the law - knock wood.

I can't believe there are actually laws varying from state to state on things as trivial as window tint...

Its so amazing... I've been looking and don't see many cars with tint. Then, the ones I do see have what looks like limo tint.

I mean I know looking at my car that even with tint, you can see how many occupants are in the car, headrests, etc... you can make those out by looking.

The other cars I see look like someone painted the windows black!

Go figure... All kinds of violations I see in this state, like clear turn signals, smoked LP covers (you have to have a front plate in this state, but you can cover up the rear plate so its not visible???)

I'm running no front plate, and my tint is 35% because the installers don't want to get in trouble...

there are enough real violations going on around here that I shouldnt be getting hassled about my tint... If I do, I'll dig around and find someone to go darker... if I am getting a ticket, its going to be for some REAL violation... hehe

but, I'm happy that I don't get hassled yet...

In NJ not only will every state trooper pull you over and give you a ticketr, you can't even get your car passed inspection with it! The most f'd up thing about all of this is, at least in NJ, there really is no law that says you can't tint your windows. The inspection is easy to get by, go private and not to the state, pay the $20 for the inspection and bam, your done. However the tickets are another matter. First, there have been several cases, none precident setting, that show there is no such law banning tinting in NJ. the law states the following, windows in motor vehicles of any type may not be etched or blocked out. This comes down to a whole what does blocked out mean. Blocked out means you cannot see in or out of the windows and the whole point of this law is so that you don't replace your windows with plywood or somethign like that. now the cops have turned this into tinting since they don't like not being able to see in your car, which is a search if you ask me! anyway good luck and you'd probably be ok to pay the fine and leave it, but you may get another ticket.
Oh yeah and I know you didn't get pulled over for just that, you are either young in a WRX and that is bad enough, or you were doing something else to get pulled over for in the first place!!(or the cop was a real dick and there are none of those out there!! )

I just got 20% on the side windows and 5% on the back and Ive had no problems. Get a eye doctor to give you a note saying that you have a sensitivity to light. Thats what my freind did who has double limo on every window except for the windsheild is limo. You cant see out of the damn car at night.

skyhigh, Wow, i didn't know that in NJ, there *REALLY* isn't a law agianst tinting. Do you care to fight it and win one for the team? :)
I'm planning on getting 20%. I've had that on my Saturn for 3 years and never had a problem driving around in NJ. Then agian, it was a Saturn... BTW anyone want to buy a excellent condition red 99 Saturn SC2 Limited Edition? It has a black roof and white guages......
