I am thinking of buying the factory boost gauge but wondering if it is worth the extra money. Does anyone else sell a boost gauge that installs on the steering column like the dealer option? I want the gauge where I can easily see it. I am also considering a pillar gauge but not sure I want to go that route.

I'm planning on buying the factory boost gauge from www.subaruparts.com (around $190) and installing it myself. Many people I talk to are very surprised that the car did not come with a boost gauge.

If you do a search for "boost gauge" you should find some different installs that have been done. I remember seeing a few column mounts, a glove box mount, a few mounted in the clock location, and one that removed the stock radio and put gauges in that area.

The factory Subaru gauges seem a little expensive for me. You could do a search for some of the other one's that people have used. It also depends on whether you want to install it yourself or get it professionally installed. Seems like a waste of money to get it installed by someone else though. I think its a good idea to get to know your car better :)

It's a little expensive but if you get it from www.subaruparts.com (http://www.subaruparts.com) it's a little cheaper. The installation instructions are detailed and clear. The installation itself is clean. The hardest part is removing interior trim to route and connect cables & hose, but this is no harder or easier than with any other installation you might attempt and it is documented in the clearest manner i've seen so far.

Here's one page of the instructions:

You might wanna go for aftermarket instead...The factory boostgauge is a little small and dim at night...and maybe some aftermarket companies offer a clock with it  i really wish i had a clock instead of having to look at my watch. So you could probably get better gauges that are better lit and more visible (factory gauges are a lil small).

It`s small and doesn`t read in PSI or bar.

I installed my own boost gauge here at the dealership using the factory parts. I would recommend using someone else's stuff. The factory boost gauge is a tiny little thing and as Gossamer Monster said, it doesn't measure in a way that we are used to seeing(BAR/PSI). It is measured in Megapascal. You should be able to get everything to hook up an aftermarket with an a-pillar pod cheaper than the factory stuff.

Do you know where the vaccum line for the boost gauge in a WRX is.
