The latest full page ads advertising the REX says 5.8 sec. 0-60. Earlier ads said over 6 seconds. I guess they were sand bagging earlier or lowered the number after the major Car Mags got much better times.

What's really funny about that is that they have that full page ad in the MotorTrend and in the ad it is stated from 0-60 in 5.8 according to Car and
Driver!!! And MotorTrend as tested from 0-60 in 5.6!!!

answer.
If one driver own car 0-60 is as SOA claimed (6.4).
If one drives somebody else's car then 0-60 is as car magazines measured. Aren't they using press demo cars for this ?

It would be interesting to check what 0-60 time Consumer Report would get. They are known for uphill, sandbagged approach.

I think I read in C&D that Honda S2000 fast sprint to 60 was achieved with creative usage of the clutch (6000 rpm clutch drop is my guess).

Question might be not how fast one wants to get to 60 but how many times, before clutch needs some work.

the s2000's 0-60 times were obtained in a similar manner than the WRX, agressive launch technique... drop + feathering of the clutch.

my theory as to why subaru first said 6.4, was because they estimated and lowballed for the first ads, to play it safe (we all know it looks better for subaru to estimate 6.4 and have the mags test lower than 6 secs, than have subaru estimate in the 5s and not being able to replicate it by mag testers)

some other companies.
Mazda HP rating for Miata.
Nissan with Q45.
Cobra (I think 1999 MY did not make claimed 320HP).

PS Modestly did not kill anybody yet.

I am not such clever I just know some things ;-)

Has anyone seen anything lower than 5.6?

I saw Autoweek on Speedvision and they logged 5.6 as well.

I am taking about stock of course! :)

The 6.4 / 0-60 time was with 2 occupants in the Subie ads. I'd say in normal driving situations, taking care of the clutch & tranny, that the 0-60 time is about: 7.8 seconds. There's no need to "launch" the car unless some kinda race is happening. The car gets to speed quicker than most others even when driven smoothly, while short-shifting and being kind to the tranny.

Grassroots Motorsports tested it in there April isssue at 5.5 seconds. They said they used a ProSolo-type launch(whatever that means?). Auto World Weekly got 5.4 seconds, not sure how they launched though.

Maybe it was because of AUto World Weekly's earlier review...but I was thinking it was possible they did their test on a JDM Spec WRX NB.

I believe I heard right at 8000rpm's actually. Just before the vtech kicks into high gear.
