To illustrate the concept... :D

I found the pic on the Yahoo XT6 list.

Porter, have you gotten any of my e-mails? I sent you my address like 12 times..it keeps comming back to me undeliverable. Shoot me an e-mail or a PM and I will give it to you......sorry to put this into your thread...Do you want some money for that Group B vid?

I have a better idea. Just take the buckets of money you have sitting around your place and send them to... well, I'll PM you my address.

In all seriousness, it looks like a very challenging project that would probably never get finished. If you do end up building it, I call dibs on a drive!

Build your project like that! Its sweet! Rear drive or AWD? Either way its awesome!

Why not just buy an 86 XT turbo and up the boost until the engine blows? That way you can play around with the car and decide if you like it enough to sink the rediculous amount of cash into it that your plan requires.

As for wiring, us an RS wiring harness/loom and just re-wire the whole thing...A build EJ25 with tyrbo should power a striped out XT6 with some serious authority, cage for safety is a good idea regardless of if its competative...i'lllend a hand if you need it? I can design stuff for you in CAD.

Oh, and not to burst your bubble, but if you actually think this project will end up costing 1/5 the cost of a WRX (basically $5k) you're out of your mind. No offense. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif

Porter

Well, the $5k was referring to my original idea of a $700 XT6 with a normal EJ25 swap (probably Paeco 208hp NA) and coilovers. Even that would be pretty fast.

By the way, anybody have an XT6 or XT Turbo they want to sell cheap? http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif

i am looking at a XT-DL on Friday.
The downside being it is only a 1.8L. However, it being the base model, hopefully no air suspension, it should be easier to build up. I would like the XT-6 but couldn’t find one for sale w/in 200 miles of ATL.
My thinking is to gut it, race seats, coilovers, drop in a turbo somehow??? and make it one helluva SOLOII car and maybe possibly doubtfully a rallycross beater…
Since I killed my RS it is my only Subaru hope…

You need to talk to Pipercub. He had a killer XT... He could offer some advice.

Awe man, I'm jealous. I had an XT6 in my hands but had problems with the transfer of the title. Now that the title situation is just about taken care of, my wife wants out since it was HER money I was using to buy the XT6 in the first place. Ugh! And to top it off, I was going to pay her back with the selling of my turbokit but RalliSpec doesn't want to set up any appointments until August because they are so backed up. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/frown.gifhttp://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/frown.gifhttp://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/redface.gifhttp://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/redface.gifhttp://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/mad.gifhttp://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/mad.gifhttp://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/mad.gifhttp://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/mad.gifhttp://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/mad.gif

At any rate, good luck on your project.

BTW: Just how fast was Pipercub's XT6 anyway?

All I know is that it was often difficult to get my old XT turbo to go more than 75 uphill.

Oh, and despite the "4wd" it didn't seem to fare well offroad for some reason. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif

Damn, I loved that car. *sigh*

Well if you can "fix" the heads the ER-27 in the XT6 will be a much better motor. The very short stroke, and perfect rod ratio means that it will rev far higher with less stress. Also you would avoid the rules classification that most engine swaps bring. I would get a plain XT if you are going to that length of changing stuff, as the plain XT's are alot cheaper and there are more out there. The swap to the EJ will require a new tranny and likely other work also, as I bet the axle shafts are different.

I'm considering buying an XT6 to build into an autocross and rallycross car, essentially a WRX beater for 1/5 the money. I have some questions on the XT that I hope you folks can answer for me.

This is the concept...

Start with:
XT6 AWD 5speed... 1989?

Swap in either a Paeco SRE (208hp EJ25) or an EJ22 block with EJ25 heads...
Probably turbo it with a front mount intercooler, or use a top mount and fabricate a custom hood scoop.
Custom exhaust, 3"
Hardened gearset, using an RS tranny housing. I may also transplant the AWD system from a wrecked RS or Legacy and have my own driveshafts and halfshafts made.
Rip out the air suspension and put in adjustable coilovers.
Racing seats, steering wheel, etc.
Paint it Rally Blue!
15" or 16" gold rally wheels (Panasport?)
sticky rubber
Maybe a cage if I think it could be competitive...

I'm thinking 280+hp, short wheelbase drift machine, totally unique.

Quite a bit of custom fabrication would of course be necessary, but I think I could build a pretty sick little machine for under 5 or 6 grand.

Help me out... what would the major problems be with doing this? Will an EJ25 fit in the XT6 engine bay? I figure since the 2.7 H6 fits, a 2.5 H4 would as well but I'm just guessing. I figure the electronics would be a nightmare too, but this is still a pipe dream until I plunk down the cash for the XT so please give me input.

What do you think? Is it even possible?

Resurrecting this thread from the dead.

I now have the XT6... forget the turbo.

It's for my GF... we're going to build it up NA and autocross it.

My SVX gets the forced induction treatment.. centrifugal supercharger baby!
