Do you think I'd be able to fit 245/17 BFG KDW2's on an '05 STi (17x8 rim) that's been lowered an inch (prodrive springs) without rub/rolling fenders?

I got 245/40/17 on my 17x8 BBS wheels with a 1" drop. No rubbing, even when I road track my car.

Interesting. thx for the link. How does wheel offset adjust the tires location?

HMM...would a 255 fit an 8" wide rim? or is that just pushin' it too much?

255/40 will fit on a 17x8 rim just fine, but I use them for auto-x and not street

Would a 255 not be a good idea for auto-x or even aggresive street?

I've seen guys run 245's on 6.5 inch rims for auto x...

whoa...I didnt think that wide of a tire could fit on that thin of a rim. What are the pros/cons of doing something like that...if that is possible, why not just but a thinner (lighter) rim? My guess is that the edges of the tire has a 'balooning' effect but i'd like confirmation or denial of this theory.

silvr...I think the problem you are having is with the tire height...try a 235 or 245/40...subyfi's link (4th post) is very helpful. Well, I think I may go 245/40 to be on the 'safe' side. Also, I don't want to cause any tire wall issues from trying to stuff the tire in the rim.

05 STi, stock 8" wide wheels. Lowered on JDM Pink springs. 255 40 17 Azenis 615. No rub whatsoever. Stance is pretty fat.

Actually a 255 is what you want for autocross. The wider the better. Some have put a 275/40 on the stock wheel for A-stock class. I have not tried it YET, but will probably do it later this year.

So does anyone think I'd have any issues with rub or degrading the tires' performance if I went with Prodrive GC-05 17x8 rims (ET 46), Prodrive Springs (about 1" lower), and BFGoodridge KDW2 255/40/17? (Based on replies, I am quite confident that I'll be ok with a 245/40/17...but I am all for a wider tire).

Well, it looks like I will be getting 255/40/17 tires for my 05 STI when my stockers go bald. I have 9000 miles on my car and I plan on taking the RE070's to the cords so it wont be any time real soon.

Do you think you could run a 255/35-18 on the 18x8's? I think it shouldn’t be a problem since we have seen many people running 255/40-17 on 17x8's. Let me know what you think.

If the offset is the same as the stocker, then I would guess yes. But I bet it is hard to find a wheel, unless you have HRE or Fikse make you a custom one, that has a 52 or 53 offset.

currently running 255/35/18 on a 8.5" rim. no problems at all so far but the 04's have a larger rear lip then the 05's so you might have to roll the fender a bit, but im not sure.

thats odd, i have read there are more rubbing issues on 05's due to an enlarged rear lip. Do you think I could get away with the 255/35-18 on 18x8's? How much bulge do you have with the 8.5's?

The 04 has a rear lip that needs to be rolled, at least my 04 STi did. The 05 STi has NO lip at all, I just double checked for you. Run your fingers in the well of an 05 and you will be like "ohhh that is nice"

2005 STi, on STi Pink springs and also with STi Sport pillowball trailing arms and lateral links with the stock 17x8 +53 wheels and 255/40R17 Azenis RT-615:

http://wrx.dicknogs.net/suspension/azenis_rear.jpg

There is good gap on the front struts and fenders, decent gap on the rear struts, good gap on the rear fenders, but the 1/2" of clearance between the tire and trailing arms is pushing it, as I have some evidence marks of the tire apparently rubbing the trailing arm on some corners.

04 Tein RA lowered very very slightly.

235 45 17 Kumho MX on Stock rims, minor rubbing.

it all depends on where you drive. I rub on this touge with big elevation change in hair pins. (try to picture Rally Monte Carlo 's hairpin, you won't be far off).

fellow member "H20" running 225 45 17 BS RE01s on CE 28Ns 17x8 , HKS hiper max II. he used to rub like mad as well. untill the tires rubbed off (dead). 0_0b

all about where you run, how you run,
