This summer I have noticed a handfull of cars in Anchorage that I thought I would never see here given our two seasons (Winter and Road Construction). But in that past two weeks I have seen two Lotus Elises, and yesterday morning I saw a yellow Ferrari 360 Modena coupe sitting as casually in traffic as I was. Two of my friends have seen a brand new Rolls and I have heard that there is now a Gallardo up here as well. Anyone else have any to add? More importantly, anyone know why these people are bringing these cars to this god forsaken state?

With money they can afford to have lots of cars/toys. There is no shortage of folks that own planes/boats/RV's that may use them once a year. Why should a vehicle be any different?

Last fall, I heard about this motorhome that was towing a brand new Hummer behind it that appeared to be headed to the hunting grounds. Not that a motor home or a hummer is uncommon, it just shows it's about money.

If I had that kind of money to buy whatever car, I'd do it despite our two seasons. I like Alaska and wouldn't move to another state just so that I could buy one of those cars.

Yeah, I've seen the new Rolls Royce, although it is Chauffur driven for a blind man. The owner of the Gallardo owns his own body shop. It's usually stored there at his shop with the Gallardo cover on it. I've seen one of the Elise's. A few other cars that you'll see would be a few S55 AMGS (retail is about 120,000+), a couple E55 AMGS (retail about 90k+), there is one BMW 6 series roaming around town( retail, a little over an BMW M3), a couple of Dodge Viper SRT-10's 2004+(Retail 85K+), a couple of Acura NSX's roaming around as well(Retail would be 90K+). Heh The NSX is a really nice car, but it's too hard to get in and out of, we detailed one here at our detail shop. I know this really isn't exotic, but there's only a handful of these in town and it's probably my favorite car when comparing it to the Mercedez S Class and Audi A8, the BMW 760i+. Depending on the engine and trim of course, it ranges from 75k-125k.

I have to agree with EatWRX, if you have the money why not? I would take a 7 series or E55AMG anyday in Alaska, regardless of the weather.

The guy that owns Carl's JR. owns the black Diablo. I saw a Vector W8 in Eagle River in '94. It's not there anymore. There are a few exotics up there that rarely see the outside of the garage. I know of a few Benz collectors up there as well.

I've seen a lot of nice cars lately as well, i see a yellow porsche 911 gt3 every weekend down by the strip, a black Diablo flew past me going up the hill a while back, Guy in my neighborhood has an older Lambo Countach or whatever, last year i saw a dark blue ferrari 575 maranello sitting in the parking lot at Carrs on huffman, it had some wierd liscense plates and i think it was a rental car. Seen a RR Phantom by my work, S55 AMG with some asshat driving it lol, Audi S8 in my neighborhood and a couple S500's. Friend at work just got an 05 bmw 745 Li, rich bastards..............

I saw that yellow Ferrari 360 Modena also. It was at the little automotive place by the holiday/tesoro/homeless shelter on tudor. I stopped my car, looked at it, the word "c6 corvette" went through my mind, then I saw a dancing horse, and was like, holy ****.....

First ferrari I've seen IRL. (new at least) It's amazing how much they look like c6's though.

Also, I saw a VW Phaeton in Wasilla about a month ago, couldn't beleive there was one up here.

The license plate was "PH8TN" :rolleyes: and a lady was driving it. I wanted to stop her and say, "Dude, if you need a 70,000 dollar status symbol, get a freakin' exotic, not an overpriced volkswagen."

Both the Caterham and Elise were at the autox at bartlett a couple weeks ago!

Heh, they are actually two BMW 6's runnin around town, also saw another E55 AMG. The VW Phaeton is actually a nice car and I believe it was the head engineer of VW that died recently made the Phaeton his last piece of work. The car was made to his exact standards. Haha some are crazy, but it's pretty neat, a lot of time and work has gone into making that car.

I forgot to add that there is a SL55 AMG runnin around here too. I about died when I saw it, the car is beautiful. Of course it has some nice rims on it which added to the look. If we ever get one, the car I would love to see is the new M5 and the new M6.

pretty sad that i take all those cars for granted because i see them all like every day. just at my school some kid drives a feaking GT3...i was like seriously? the other day a white/blue ford GT hauled right by me and then later on that day a red ferrari F50 did the same...

Haha yeah that is the one, I saw it earlier this year in April too. Yeah So Cal is pretty crazy when it comes to cars. I've never seen so many G35's, SL500's, BMW 7 series, even the Gallardo I saw numerous times, about **** my pants lol.

Doesn't matter...neither of them are USDM cars. Both are grey-market imported cars. I would be much more impressed seeing a Cossy Escort RS than seeing an R32, mostly because I've seen a few R32's here in the states before.

I just happened to see a white BMW 6 convertible yesterday after work!

yeah, teh caterham and one elise was at teh Auto x a while back, the other elise was at the drive show. Accoriding to one of the Elise owners there is ~5 elises up here, one is a "special addition" version. Caterham was nice, damns small. I have seen the Rolls as well and the Ferrari. There is also a ferrari over near where I live, older convertible, similar but pre the 355. Also know of the NSX. There is also a Nissan Pulsar GTR up here as well. in addition to the few E55 and S55 AMG's, I have also seen a few G-wagens, oe was even a G55 AMG Galandewagen. Have seen a Lotus Esprite run around up here. Also have seen a coupel phaetons (not "rare" but pricey I think)

It was in Sitka, but the owner just recently moved to Anchorage. It is US legal, and was legalized by MotoRex. The Escort RS Cosworth has also been legally imported.

Seen a couple of those Escort Rs's here in the Philippines. I'd never thought a Ford would turn my head...they do look nice.

I think there is actually 3 S8's in town. there are 2 white ones (casablanca) and a platinum one. I have seen the platinum one and each time I think of the Soprano's for some reason. LOL.

Saw a red rs6 today on gamble by CAls. Middle aged guy, classic parted and receeding hairline. Hunched over the wheel with little pale hands at 11 and 1.
Looked alot like gollum squating over the one ring.

The car looked really bored and marginally suicidal.

i remember seeing a cosworth up here a few years ago...right hand drive and loud. pretty bad ass. haha, back in virginia, BMW 6 and 7 series were dime a dozen, and Bentlys and Roll's were all over the place too. only saw like 6 subies in total. 2 RS's 1 STi and 3 WRXs.

Not the most expensive car, but I saw on the way to last weeks autocross, a new Merc CLS (CSL?). What a sexy car!

I backed an older gentlemans $70,000 Lexus LS down a driveway last night. He has had the car almost a year and had less than 1200 miles on it. Took me awhile to figure out how to start it, you just put the end of the key fob in a slot like a key and turn, was kind of trick.

I asked "You have this car about a week now?"
Old Guy responds "No, almost a year, but I have a couple Lincolns I drive around in normally."

Some years ago, 5-6 I remember seeing a Blue impreza with Euro plates pull up to the store I was working at. It was a bit darker than WRB. I didn't get to see much of it but I did see a small extinguisher on the inside as well as some guages. I believe it also had some white decals on it. Anyone ever see this?

Probably not my car as I never had Euro plates. The only Suby I remember running Euro plates was Ilir's WRX.

I decided to dig my own thread up. I finally saw that Rolls Phantom, this time it was in front of Goldrush, about a week ago. That thing has so much presence. It is just massive, but it is not just a size matter...it looks powerful.

Back in November we went to this MB of Anchorage party for the unveiling of the new R-Class. The greatest thing in that showroom though was the CLS55 AMG. That thing was awsome. There is just nothing else like it. And nothing keeping me from it other than the $100k price tag.
