It's time for me to replace the stock tires, and d like to get a set of spare wheels with tires for Auto-X and occasional DEs as well. I have narrowed down my choices to the following following three options:

Mount Azenis street tires on the stock BBS, and I'm going to try the Dunlop SP Race tire (DOT legal to be able to drive to and from events) in 245-40-17 on 17x8 rims. The 17x8 rims are about 2-3 pounds heavier than the BBS from what I can tell.

-OR-

Mount a 225-45-17 or 235-40/45-17 race tire on the BBS, and the street tire on the 17x8 rims, in either 225 or 245 since they are 8" rims.

-OR-

Just get another set of 070s and run them everywhere.

For those that do auto-X and DE, what would you do? Trade the weight for the width or the width for the weight?

This is going on an STI, 300HP/350TQ to the wheels give or take a few, stock suspension so camber/toe would be limited to stock for now.

To keep things in perspective, I've got my total cost at about $1,500 all-in, and don't plan to spend more than that since I do this more for fun than serious competition. Not to mention the family doesn't let me out that often!

I posted in wheel and tire, but thought this might get better response here. I didn't think I could move the post, but I tried.
