View Full Version : Who's going to Lime Rock for the ALMS weekend?
C17LOAD 06-14-2005, 08:54 PM Is anyone planning on going to Lime Rock for the 4th? Ive never been before but the wife and I are heading up this year. Any words of wisdom for parking or where the good corners for spectating are? Anybody know about good hotels in the area? Geez, Im full of questions! Ive been researching into the area but I know CT like I know Greek. Not very well.
Thanks for any help, and hope to see some of you guys up there!
solo2wrx 06-14-2005, 11:47 PM I will be up there on the 1st and 2nd. Helping out Safronas in the Speed World Challenge GT race. Used to live in NY and went to Lime Rock atleast twice a year for races. Your going to want to park on the infield. The front hill overlooks the front straight, big bend and the short chute. Very good spot but always crowded. My favorite is the uphill and back straight. The faster cars have to run the chicane at the top of the uphill because a few years back a GTP car flipped while cresting the hill. Great spot to watch from as they come flying up the hill and down the straight. Hope you enjoy the race. It promises to be one with not stop excitement just like last year.
Imprezivblue 06-15-2005, 12:15 AM Ugh- I wish I could but i'm VA for the summer. And I'm SOOOO frustrated they moved the event from Memorial Day to July 2nd weekend (it happens i'm going to the peru tour instead anyway). I've grown up going to lime rock Memorial Day weekend more times than I can count- and this is the first time in probably the past 15 years I haven't been able to go. The ALMS cars had become one of my favorites to watch up there and it's an exciting track. I loved watching from the infield and grew up caming the whole weekend with the interesting different crews and grew up and have friends that go now every memorial day weekend. The change of line up was quite upsetting as my family and I didn't attend due to this fact. Why change a good thing.
PS- I miss the GTP cars.
C17LOAD 06-15-2005, 01:47 AM thanks for your help solo! I'll definately be parking on the infield!
palmerx141 06-15-2005, 02:41 AM ill be there on the 4th prob. I get back from Mt. Hood the night of the 3rd so i think im going to try and be there for the 4th and maybe the next day.
doghauler 06-15-2005, 12:18 PM I'm definitely going, had a blast last year. I saw a few scoobies at the Memorial Day event last month, but I'm sure there will be more for the ALMS. There are small motels/b&bs around the area, not sure if there will be vacancies or not.
My biggest complaint for Lime Rock is the no Sunday racing rule. Throws me off, as I don't want to hang out up there with not much to do.
Infield is the place to park, usually a car show itself.
I had a blast at the Mid-ohio round, can't wait to see Irish Mike!!!
RaceComp Engineering 06-15-2005, 05:18 PM I might be taking lil Senna up for the weekend so he can see the "big cars"....
To a 5 year old the LMP cars are prob a big deal.................actually to a 37 year old they are a big deal
I have promised to get him a "sit in" the AUDI LMP 900 car, so I prob HAVE to go now.
Best memory of LIME ROCK was 1997 Jon WInter and drove his white 944 turbo with 400whp and full cage up to LIme rock on Hoosiers and hung out and drank Spaten and partied like there was no tomorrow. Even when "tomorrow" came, it was all good. Lime Rock rules in the old format because its still spring and its always kool up there.

Kha0S 06-15-2005, 05:24 PM I'll probably be headed out there with a few friends for the 4th... I don't think I can stand to blow the whole weekend out there, so no Touring/GT this year for me.

C17LOAD 06-15-2005, 07:40 PM If there's some of us Subbies guys goin for the main event, we should roll in together and park together. Could make the event that much more enjoyable having some familiar faces, or at least names, around!

I'm going too cant wait. Hey myles can you get me a sit in too? :)
TimStevens 06-16-2005, 09:05 AM I'll be there Sat and Mon with a buddy. Any idea how early one should get there to get a spot in the infield? I've never been to a race at Lime Rock, so I have no idea how busy it gets there.
Also, if yous guys haven't ordered your tix yet, you get free parking and discounted prices if you order 'em online ahead of the race.
kb2spn 06-16-2005, 09:56 AM Get there as early as you can,the local road into lime rock tends to get backed up a lot.I love to sit by the camel bridge, see the cars sliding off the track
TimStevens 06-16-2005, 10:01 AM Oi... how long does it take to get out of the infield, then?

Getting out of Lime Rock after the race is over is quite a task, infield much worst.Time and patience is the key.
kfoote 06-16-2005, 10:41 AM If you can get there on Sat, The WCTC race is the last race of the day. It should be interesting, as I know of a car running a partial season that will be there that has proven to be a competitive package in the past at Lime Rock... ;)
I will be there Fri and Sat, not sure about Mon. yet. I'm expecting to be pretty busy, though.
solo2wrx 06-16-2005, 10:50 AM I have found the key to getting out of the infield is either leave during the last race or you walk around the pits for about an hour after the race is over. Then you should be able to get out easily. I don't think that I will have to worry about getting out because I have to get there early and leave late due to crewing. Now all I am hoping for is that James doesn't wad the car up in the wall during practice or qualifying. That would make for a stressful weekend. Hope to see some of you guys out there. I will be with the #14 Speed GT Porsche team if anyone happens to walk past, I will probably be the youngest guy on the crew.
TimStevens 06-16-2005, 10:54 AM Nice, I'll be keeping an eye out for ya, and will be rooting for Henzler. :)
TimStevens 06-29-2005, 10:10 AM Looks like the weather's going to be great!
mofugga 06-29-2005, 10:52 AM i'll be there monday :D
TimStevens 06-29-2005, 10:57 AM Anyone know what LRP's policy is on coolers and such? Any prob bringing in a cooler and camp chairs and whatnot?
:edit: never mind, answered my own question:
http://www.limerock.com/trackinfo_faq.htm

TimStevens 06-29-2005, 11:48 AM What if I have no kids, can I still sit in the car if I promise not to wet my pants? :)
turboICE 06-29-2005, 01:21 PM I probably won't be able to make it with Hyperfest coming up and too many projects between now and then. It seems the more I race the less I get to enjoy others racing... :(
Anyway for anyone going to ALMS - if you can, stay and watch the Pro IT race the following day on the 5th. This will give you a chance to see one of the entry level fields and the people who have to do their own work and put up their own money to field an entry. Regional racing at LRP always brings out some good races.
TimStevens 06-29-2005, 01:29 PM Is that different than the 33 lap IT race that's on Monday before the ALMS race?
turboICE 06-29-2005, 01:32 PM It is likely the same I guess - but I thought the ALMS schedule was finished on the 4th. I don't know the exact scheduling of the ALMS events I guess - but yes it is the 33 lap race on Monday. Oh, on the IT forums they were talking about it being on the 5th. I guess that was my confusion. It said the 5th in the title but yes it is on Monday before the ALMS race... Just color me confused.
TimStevens 06-29-2005, 01:42 PM Well I'll be there to watch then, that and the other spec race earlier in the day.

the hyperfest event at summit point?
we will be there also.

turboICE 06-29-2005, 04:55 PM Yeah - preparing to race is more complicated and time consuming than actually racing. It is just an accumulation of way too many projects going on that interfere with preparing to race or are prerequisites to preparing. Eventually I will have 5 usable stalls to make projects easier to juggle. As one for instance I have needed to replace the STi's front bearings for at least four months now (25 track days will do that on the weak 04 hubs) and just haven't been able to get to it.
But yeah I will be racing my 240SX in PS2 at Hyperfest along Zephyr (another NASIOC member) who will be racing his H5 civic with a new engine. Several other members will be doing the HPDEs.
Barry 06-30-2005, 06:33 AM My first visit to LRP was in 1969..........have not missed much since.....plenty of Subie people from Long Island appear to be going this weekend. I will be there Saturday following Irish Mike, whom I met at Sebring, and the #10 Protege of Ryan Pilla who is a client of mine. BTW, do not forget about the Ferrari/Maserati Days Meet at LRP the following weekend............

Drive safe,

TimStevens 06-30-2005, 08:37 AM I saw the Ferrari Maserati Days the next weekend... some of the cars they have on that page are gorgeous. May just have to swing back by.
I'll be there with the wife on Saturday. I don't know when I'll be arriving, but since I live 45 minutes away I hope it will be early. If anyone knows an effective time/place to meet I'll give it a shot.
