View Full Version : 05 STi w/ Turboback...
MJU1983 06-15-2005, 02:56 AM I took my new car to the track. It's not "new, new" but it is new to me.
2005 sti, catless turboback. Running 1.0 bar boost.
First time I have been to the drag strip in almost two years... Since the WRX. :)
Here are the results, any thoughts would be appreciated. Cant wait to start modding.
-Mike

I wasn't unhappy w the numbers. I wanted at least a 13.1 though.
You had MY04 right? I think the tuning is a little less agressive from 04 to 05. The EVO MR will even dyno more than us. :(
To make up a ricer excuse, based on weather conditions... It was like we were at ~2000 ft rather than our normal 400 ft above sea level.
V6TurboTA 06-15-2005, 03:26 AM Ya but your runs are really good, im just bustin em. Your 60' times are killer. The mph does seems a little low tho. Do you have a heat shield on the car?

I think the MPH is low as well... shifting to 5th feels like soul of the car is gone. The only heat shields on, are the ones on the exhaust manifold / uppipe.
I really wanted a 1.6XX 60’ on that last run, I think I would have hit my goal.
V6TurboTA 06-15-2005, 03:31 AM Get a shield back on the turbo. You will regain the top end I bet.
my car was the same way catless & sheildless. Quicker ET, but slower Mph.
i was shifting to 5th around the 10,000' mark on my runs ;) 5th sucks :(

I have the gigantic TurboXS DP. Probably get a heat sheild 'bag' for the turbo and wrap the downpipe. Should have sent it for jet hot coating before I put it on. d'oh
happasaiyan 06-15-2005, 08:58 AM it wouldve been nice if we got the JDM 5th and 6th gear ratios. the gap between 4th and 5th on the USDM 6 speed is ridiculous.
MRGLASS 06-15-2005, 09:27 AM nice times......which dp did you go with?? I put the Helix on this weekend and had to "trim" the stock heat shield to make it fit, so definately putting on the aftermarket shield....curious, haven't made any runs yet (05' sti) but when did you hit the intercooler sprayer??
MJU1983 06-15-2005, 10:43 AM happasaiyan I concur! On the street it isnt that bad... but you 'notice' it to say the least at the track.
MRGLASS TurboXS. I didnt hit it at all going down the track, hit it a couple times before pulling up to cool things down. The intake manifold was HOT to the touch.

even on the street, i think its ridiculous.
in 4th, clutch in, put shifter in neutral, wait for revs to drop...still waiting...zzzzzz...put shifter in 5th release clutch and go.
i think its the reason people have problems with 5th gear grinding. people are simply shifting too fast into 5th too often. the tranny isnt ready to shift that fast, so the synchros are working overtime too much. ah well.
...on a side note, when i drive my RSX-S, i burn the clutch a bit when i shift into 5th, because im so used to waiting in the STi, the revs have already dropped below matching, and the clutch has to compensate.
