^That's the link, BUT everytime I try to view it, it freezes up my browser or WMP. :(

Can anyone get it to work? I found it here: http://www.subaru.co.jp/impreza/special/

What would make me want to try if it freezes your computer? " Here, try this. I wanna see if my computer sucks or if it's a virus"

Yea, you're right. No one could ever plant a virus on a big site like that. :p The internet is totally safe. Well, gotta go. Off to drop my daughter off to meet a little girl with similar interests she is meeting alone in the park after dark.

all i have to say it.... NEW TIRES W/Softer compound... either that, or this guy needs to be smoother on the brakes/turning. tires are squeeling the entire time. but still tho, thast a pretty impressive timeslip for the Nur

I've seen that before, I think it was posted before. For me, it was semi-choppy, and by 2:30 the audio was out of sync by at least 1.5 seconds. :-/

Playing that stream with WMP wasn't gonna happen. But I was able to save it locally with http://sdp.ppona.com/ and then play it.

Enjoy!

After watching that Hans Stuck M3 video at the Ring this car looks like it's going in slow motion.

No, it's the newer one. I believe the old video had time of around 8:04. But fromt eh data shown when he's driving this video is definitely new. The guy is a driver for one of the Prova Division racing team's STi in the Super Taikyu champsionship. He definitely should know how to drive a Spec C as he's been doing it for the past year and Subarus for the past 5 or 6 years.

The car he uses is a stock Spec C. I don't think any modifications, even tires, were made.

Oh, and the vid freezes because whatever server that streams this video blows chunks. You should use the link above or google for another program that saves streaming movies.

Anything like this for OSX? Or can you send me that video through AIM?

The new Best Motoring (Nismo Beast) is going to have a Spec-C running at Nurburgring.

So you can all watch it on DVD instead of streaming it :)

It does. Maybe it's the camera being so far back in the car in this video that does it. Impressive lap, given a presumably stock setup.

BTW, thanks for the SDP link. I downloaded the video just fine with it. 60MB total.

Works for me once I get it buffered.

7:59 isn't too far from John Felstead's time around the ring in a Spec C. I think he did just a few sec's over 8:00.

There's a thread in OT where he said that his time was the "short" version - bridge to gate, or something like that, and that it was about 20-30 seconds shorter than the "official" times. IIRC it was an STi5 RA.

Does the Spec C have the old style dials on the new center console or is that a pre-production model?

I don't see a 7:59 lap in this video.

He launches at 0:04 sec, just in front of the first turn:

And 8:09 min later he's just at the beginning of the straight:

What gives?

The encoding is pretty bad in that movie. Notice how the sound at least several seconds ahead of the video? I wouldn't trust the run-time displayed on your player.

bal00
06-17-2005, 02:06 AM
The audio is 4.5 sec ahead of the video, but even if you subtract that, he's still a 600ft straight short of a complete lap.

anyone think this guys driving position is a bit of a stretch to the steering wheel? He looks like he's a mile away and stretching to turn.

On an open day (for the public--Touristenfahrt) the time people quote is about 25 seconds less than a full lap (bridge to gantry). A sub 8:00 full lap is quite impressive. The fastest "road car" time is about 7:32 (Carerra GT--on Michelin Pilot Cups I think).

I opened on the site itself (High version) and it played fine for me (OSX)- it wouldn't play to the direct link. Pretty impressive for a pretty stock car- I had to convert kmh to mph- looks like 155 mph in the last long straight :)

Is this a preferred track driving position? Gan-san (Haruki Kurosawa) is in almost the same position driving a Spec C on the Ring in the Best Motoring International: Nismo Beast Unleashed video. In order for me to get my arms extended like these guys and still be able to push the clutch pedal all the way down, I'd have to have my seat close to the steering wheel but reclined somewhat far back.

the tires are SUPPOSED to squeal all the time, it means you are using them fully.

I don't think anyone in here is really qualified to critique the driving skills of someone who yanked off a sub 8minute time at the ring =)

that subaru is going pretty quick, only a few seconds slower than a stock z06 corvette =) *edit* oh I see it was the short version, nevermind

He's probably so small, that even with the seat all the way up, that's as close as he can get. Ever seen Takuma Sato get out of his car? He looks like a seven year old!

It is a little for me...and I don't go that fast. It is still thrilling.

As far as the Enzo goes, I think the laps they have done are a bit off of the Carrera GT times. Comforting to know that to for each second between the spec c and a carrera GT (~27), you're talking around $12K/sec in cost difference!

Speaking of corvettes...two weeks ago when I was there I met a bunch of U.S. plated vettes and owners. Mostly C5 and C6s on a multi-week drive around Europe and ending at Le Mans. Kinda cool to see New York and Michigan plates at the 'Ring. Not so cool having to pass about 10 in one lap because of track unfamiliarity.

thats not the issue, the issue is most corvette owners are old and fearful of going fast =)
