Talked with the manager and found out about a lil project going on...

05 STI with more parts on the engine than I can list but the guy was talking stock internals at approx 550 hp to the wheels... Took a peak at it and the engine is still out but being rather new to these cars about the only thing that looked stock was the block. Manager said it was about $20,000 USD in parts and $5,000 in labor. Bearing in mind that this is a dealership and I can find cheaper and better places to get things done, I am having him write me up a quote to get an idea of a parts list.

I recently bought a 01' 2.5RS Coupe. It's got some nice appearance stuff done but it's begging for more power. Well, actually I am but thats not the point.

My questions involved in this...

STI related:

1) is that safely possible with stock internals?
2) is it smart not to upgrading his brake system?

2.5RS related:

1) how high can I go on stock internals? (and how high with aftermarket)
2) being lighter how much would it take to match a 05 STI w/ 550 whp?
3) I wanna be a daily driver on prem. gas and basically I'm looking for what needs to be done, I'm not looking for much more than 400 whp on perm.

Brake system is fine. I'm just trying to get over spending that much money, yet not replacing any engine internals. Especially since the engine is out of the car. Another reason not to take my car to the dealer.

Its possible. It will happen some time this year. The most I have seen is 526whp on a stock STI engine with our turbo kit. The heads start to impose a real problem past that.. But I/we plan to break that and push the stock block well past 600whp.

Why do people think power means you need brakes? The car doesn't weigh any more. Unless you're actually braking from higher speeds more often, you don't need a brake upgrade. Especially on an STi with relatively massive vented rotors, you've got tons of heat-sinking capability. If you want to stop faster, get better tires. Even WRX 2-pots can overcome the traction limits of the tires.

Anyway, that's an awful lot of bank to not go ahead and replace internals. I'm a big believer in the power of the stock block, but if I were having the engine pulled anyway, I would replace at least pistons while I was in there - it's cheap insurance if you can save on the labor.

Because everyone knows that if you have 500 whp, you go around driving at 160 mph everywhere and totally ignore your surroundings, therefore waiting til the last second to slam on the brakes.

We have run the stock internals in your RS to about 380 crank HP before the rods bent, where 350hp at the crank has been a reliable figure. These numbers are based on 110 octane fuel though.

If you want 400 at the wheels, ditch your 2.5RS block and slide in a EJ257. Your heads will work great for that amount of power.
