When removing the tranny (02 WRX) for a clutch install, how much shaking, (as I am reading in the Sccoby Mods write up) is required for breaking the tranny free of the motor? Is there any way I can break the motor and tranny apart, by prying or any other method that works well? Also, the bolt that pulls the fork free in the service port, how far does that bolt need to go in, and how can I tell if it does its job? One last one, any suggestions to get off a stripped lug? I am having so much fun this week...

I usually pry between the front diff sump and the crossmember after the bellhousing bolts are off and the 5MT unit is supported. Should pop right on out unless it's rust infested, for that you'll have to exert a little more elbow grease.

The bolt for the shift fork rod(a side timing cover bolt fits nicely); a couple threads should do it. Screw it in there, and jiggle the fork while you pull on the bolt and the pivot rod should come out. Then you lift the fork up and lean it forward to free it from the t/o bearing. to reinstall you'll notice the pivot rod has a dowel through it. this goes in horizontally.

Seperating the trans from the block; put a padded jack under the oil pan to keep the engine from flopping forward. Be sure you unbolted the ground from the pitch stop cradle on the fire wall or you will snap the wire. I use a putty knife between the block and the trans to get it started then I step it up to screwdrivers and finally a prybar.

Stripped lug; is the rim on? if not then you should be able to hammer on it to push it out the back of the hub. To install a new one, get a nut with the same thread pitch and a stack of washers. oil the washers. put the lug through the back side, put on your stack of washers, then the nut. The lug is splined so try to align the splines. Then you just tighten the nut untill it's in all the way. remove nut and washers. viola!

Good luck
