View Full Version : Will this really help?
Nytmare 06-18-2005, 07:28 PM I'm heading to the track on Wednesday, and so far the best I've been able to pull off is a 13.1, and the best trap I've managed is 104.9. I'm really hellbent on getting into the 12's and this time up I'm going to do all that I can (within reason) to do it. I'm gonna try to get my hands on a Typhoon before then, take out all of my seats, and the purpose of this thread, get some GT100 Unleaded Race Gas.
I've done multiple searches within multiple forums on here for info about race gas, but the thing I haven't read about yet is if you really need a tune for the higher octane for it to be effective. I heard somewhere that our stock ECU's can adapt to up to 98 octane, but I'm not sure. I won't be able to get the car tuned for the 100 before I hit the track, so it's now or never, basically.
I refuse to give up until I get this car into the 12's, even if it's a 12.9, plus I've got an SLP LS1 meeting me up there Wednesday who does 12.8's all day long, but that's just a small portion of why I need to drop my times haha.
Help me pleeeaaaasseeee!
wrxben 06-18-2005, 09:34 PM Go for the race gas, it should help you alot. Just make sure to floor the gas several times before you actually run so the ecu can learn and advance some timing. It will help you to also make sure not to have more than a half a tank at the track, this way the car weighs less.
good luck
Ben
O2wrx 06-18-2005, 11:15 PM Just tree the LS1 and your 13.1 > his 12.8 keke
V6TurboTA 06-19-2005, 12:18 AM Just learn how to drive instead of using cheap tricks ;)
You gonna be there in the morning?

jmott 06-19-2005, 12:44 AM ice on the intercooler b4 u run, remove seats, spare tire etc
=)
burnin4 06-19-2005, 01:00 AM what are your mods? what was your 60ft, 1/8 et and mph?
bren wrx 06-19-2005, 02:09 AM james after my tune iw as on the dyno and with stock tmic the car was tryign to run full advance like whoa on 93 octane like it couldnt get enough of that sweet sweet vf34. LOL
speedemon9 06-19-2005, 02:32 AM a tune will give you alot more hp on race gas, like 40 more
cornpops 06-19-2005, 04:40 AM He's gotta make do with what he's got. Pour in some stronger race gas like vp c16 and crank up the boost.
V6TurboTA 06-19-2005, 05:14 AM Id be willing to bet a little money he will go faster with 104, than c16.
I speak from exp. My other car ran 3mph and 3 tenths slower on c16 than it did on 108 nothing else changed.
If he was varing his boost etc, maybe, but not with just the AP with 93 octane maps.

WRXGuyInUSA 06-19-2005, 05:20 AM too much octane in a car not tuned for it will make you LOSE power... so dont be stupid, and put C16 in...
I would probably run a 93/104 mix... about 3 gallons 93 and 2 gallons 104....
Nytmare 06-19-2005, 12:27 PM what are your mods? what was your 60ft, 1/8 et and mph?
Mods are HKS Turboback (3" Catless) and COBB Stage 2 tuned with the Protuner at TDC Tuning. The car made 293whp/334wtq on the dyno. I'll show the timeslips for my 13.1 run and my 104.9 trap.
60' - 1.77
330 - 5.36
1/8 - 8.39 @ 81.38
1000 - 10.982
1/4 - 13.17 @ 102.88
Then in the same night I decided to try flat shifting 3rd-4th. I had gotten 10 runs in during this trip to the track, I've got all of the timeslips sitting around me right now lol. The above run was #2, this next run was #6.
60' - 2.047 (OUCH)
330 - 5.681
1/8 - 8.65 @ 83.33
1000 - 11.205
1/4 - 13.35 @ 104.91
????
Then, another run just before that I had trapped 104.08 with a 13.24 ET. Whenever I flat shift 3rd-4th, the trap goes way up.
I plan on taking out all of the seats, and everything is already out of the trunk. I'm not going to be dumb and put like, leaded 110 fuel  but I think the GT100 from Sunoco will help, unleaded street legal fuel.
I'm taking any other suggestions as to how to get the car down the track even .2 faster, my goal since I got it has been 12's and I've still not accomplished it. Even if I lose to this LS1 and do a 12.9 I'll be a happy camper.
STipoweredWRC 06-19-2005, 12:38 PM Just get out there and do some more runs, I managed 12.88@104 with just a catted TBE and a mediocre 1.80 60ft, so with some practice you should have no problem.
Nytmare 06-19-2005, 02:08 PM Yeah I could use a little more practice, heh.
Also, here's kindof a weird question...since RWD is obviously better at higher speeds than AWD, has anyone played with the DCCD while going down the track? Maybe hit 2nd gear and then flip the switch to full rear? It might be a retarded question but I was just thinking about different things and that popped into my head.
MrMcCrackin 06-19-2005, 02:22 PM Yeah I could use a little more practice, heh.

In theory this will be optimal, however kung-fighting the 6 speed down the track, there is NO WAY to hit the controller in the process.
I plan on getting a "black box" from Kingpin that hooks up to the DCCD controller and has pre-programmed settings based on MPH. Launch in LOCK, then at 25mph roll back to full rear.
But removing excess weight will help, as will race gas. Remember that the ECU needs time to "learn" the limitations of the gas mix, so getting some BEFORE track day and beating on the car is a good idea. Unless you can tune for it.
