Hey guys, if this is in the wrong section I apologize in advance.

I have a MY00 2.5RS, bought it about a year ago and have loved it up untill a few weeks ago. A couple weeks back my CEL came on and I noticed my gas mileage suffering. Sounds like an 02 sensor to me. I hooked it up to a friends OBD-II reader and it shot back a number of codes, which I will list at the bottom of the post. I checked around for prices and whatnot and while checking the forums discovered a recall was issued (WXW80) My car had not had the recall dont yet, so I was happy, wouldnt cost me a dime. Called subaru of Natick (MA) made an appointment and tried to avoid driving my car untill it could be serviced.

A week later, after being annoyed at the flashing orange light I was waiting in the parking lot at the dealership for them to open for my 8am appointment. I decided to turn off my car because i still had about 5-10 min to wait untill 8am. At 8 when they opened the garage up I turned on the car to drive it in, and the light went out. I told them what happened and they did the work anyway.

That was 5/27. A week later, after enjoying improved gas mileage, the light came back on again. Went to the friend with the reader and it returned the same codes, made another appointment. When I went in the dealer told me that it was not my 02 sensor that was causing the CEL. He said that my car was in a "factory safe" mode probablly caused by my aftermarket stereo not being grounded. (which I assure you it is) He then told me that it would take 3-6 hours of electric diagnosis @ $90 an hour to figure out the problem. I called my local mechanic and told him what they said and he laughed saying that they just didnt want to fix my car. So $45 dollars later they told me that it was not returning any codes and that my radio was the problem?

I have called cityside subaru of natick to make an apointment with them to check it out because i do not believe the guys at Natick.

The codes returned when we hooked it up to my friends reader were

P0136-Rear Oxygen Sensor Circuit Malfunction
P0500-Vehicle Speed Sensor Malfunction
P1100-Starter Switch Circuit Malfunction(M.A.F. circuit)
P1101-Neutral Position Switch Circuit Malfunction (M/T)
P1120-Starter Switch High Input
P1121-Neutral Position Switch Circuit High Input [MT Vehicles]
P1540-Vehicle Speed Sensor Malfunction 2

Any ideas as to what the problem is? I have read that many times the ECU has to be reflashed to cure the 02 sensor problem

Any help would be greatly appreciated and sorry about the long post

By any chance are the green connectors under the driver side dash plugged together? They aren't supposed to be and if they are the ECU will be in a diagnostic mode where the CEL flashes constantly, the fans and various solenoids/relays cycle on and off, and you get a bunch of codes. Look under there and unplug them if connected, that will solve your problem.

....somebody else posted almost this same exact thing not long ago...like a week or so....the guy had installed a 'grounding kit' and had these same sorts of issues/CEL's.....don't remember the outcome.....

I have noticed that when my car is off but the key is in the on posistion that the fans cycle on and off constantly

Just went outside and took a peak, the green connectors are not connected.

Any more ideas?

...something is making the circuit......and making it run diagnostic mode....something that was done a few weeks ago....

The radio that natick blamed the CEL on has been in since december, and before that it was in my 63 Bel Air for several years. Only thing that has been done to the car in the past few weeks is the 02 sensor replacement on 5/27. I do not believe they reset the ECU, which I have heard many dealerships have done when replacing the 02

Well, what you're describing is exactly what happens when the green connectors ARE plugged together. Are you sure you're looking at the right ones? Something is putting the ECU in that mode.

Ohhh I see....

Yeah I already knew that, I was hoping to figure out what the issue was, thanks for the help?

...if YOU installed the electrical junk.....UN-INSTALL IT....if someone else did....get THEM to uninstall it.....and if THAT dosen't fix it....burn it.
