after the current mods of TBE, uppipe, and bov what should i buy...the AP or a UTEC...UTEC is a little more expensive but it seems to offer more...what is my best bet?

I am also curious for input on this, same setup minus the BOV. I'm searching around right now to learn more. If I find anything really good I'll post it.

There is no best bet. What do you want to do? Are you looking for something that is set and forget, or something that will take some work? Do you like to tinker? Do you mind accidentally blowing up your motor, and can you be w/out it for a long time while it gets fixed? These are the things you s/b thinking about.

Wow, there is a "fair and balanced" comparison between the ap and utec. Do you mind driving around for hours trying to figure out why your not hitting "target boost" BTW I run utec and so do a bunch of my buddies and we havent blown up yet.

I guess that didn't come off as unopinionated as I had planned. :)

I wasn't trying to point out negatives of either system, just trying to list some questions for people to answer, and some things to think about before buying. If you don't want to tinker, then don't buy the UTEC. If you are at all worried about blowing up your motor, then this is something to consider (actually w/ both units based on some of the "high EGT w/ AP" threads). If you want to tinker, and you can afford to be without your car for a while (just in case), then definitely consider the UTEC. If you are in a situation where any downtime w/ your car is unacceptable, then you shouldn't even think about the UTEC, and should just order the AP.

Basically, the UTEC will give more power than the AP, b/c it can be configured specifically for your car and your mods. However, its not a magic switch or an easy 5-minute solution, and if done wrong, it can definitely blow your crap up. Same goes for StreetTuner, but from what I've read the Streettuner is mroe complex than the UTEC.

And FWIW, I have a UTEC too...

You dont have to tinker on the utec. Thats why god made tuners. Load a base map and let a pro do the rest.

If you aren't going to tinker, you're wasting your money. Why not just get a reflash and be done w/ it? Or an AP and get a ProTuner Tune? In most cases its the same price or cheaper than a UTEC w/ just a base map, and you get the (arguablly) "better" features associated w/ the stock ECU. The "UT" means "User Tunable", take advantage of that feature.

i bet their are a lot of people that don't tinker with their utec... doesn't make it a bad option... if you have a good tuner in the area that prefers using the utec, then that might be the better choice... not everyone makes their trip to and from work a tuning session...
