Will flashing to Stage 2 help get rid of the stink on my catless exhaust?

Nope.. nothing other than a catylitic converter will get rid of that smell. Look into a metal-substrate style high flow cat, most say that if flows almost as well as an open pipe.. maybee 5whp loss at most.

yea, well i just thought that the stage 2 reflash would lean the engine out a bit. Correct me if im wrong but the stink isnt caused by removing the cats, its caused bc the engine is running rich and there is no cat there to obsorb it.

Target A/F Ratios are mid 12's under load before the onset of boost. Under full
load by 4000 RPM the A/F Ratio will drop to mid 11:1 and gradually run richer as
RPM's increase ending at mid to high 10:1 A/F at redline.

That is taken from the map notes for the Stage 1 93oct flash

Target A/F Ratios are mid 12's under load before the onset of boost. Under full
load by 3500 RPM the A/F Ratio will drop to mid 11:1 and gradually run richer as
RPM's increase ending at mid to high 10:1 A/F at redline.

That is from the notes for Stage 2 93oct...

As you can see they have the same target A/F ratios so going to stage 2 will not lean out the engine at all. Would you rather lean your engine out and risk detonation, install a high-flow cat with little to no change in power or drivablity, or contiue on with the stink?

For me the choice is pretty obvious.

Read thru the map notes Here (http://www.cobbtuning.com/wrx/accessport/) to familiarize yourself with the differences between AP maps.

I'm running Cobb stage 2 with one hiflo cat, and I still get the catless stink until my cat gets hot (about half hour of driving or so). I plan on getting dyno tuned in the near future, and hope that will get rid of the smell.

With a high flow, you should get no smell. Im running a stage 2 with some additional tuning, and I get no smell... even before the extra tuning.

If you have no cats, go get one. That will solve your probs.

Apparently, I'm not the only one.
